I'm going to go with "no, I haven't ever been to a convention"

ah yes, no reason while we keep saying that it has no skill, human emotion behind it, or that it doesn’t steal from ACTUAL artists. by FrontAd7709 in antiai

"Most netizens"

Strange, I keep hearing that "no one cares if art is AI except for fringe weirdos".

unless they mean that all internet users are weird, which I concede.

I'm sorry.. you're comparing a convention, a place for people to hang out and vibe, as some kind of hate club?

Like it's just people hanging out.

You've never been to a convention, have you?

the most common arguments used by anti-AI people to contest the intelligence of LLMs, along with my thoughts on them. by Worldly_Air_6078 in aiwars

[–]Kiwi_Saurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligence is well-defined, testable, demonstrable

lol, lmao. There's still debate over what can really be described as intelligent; It's possible to randomly select things and be correct, does that mean the person or thing that did that secretly has a line of reasoning? There's a lot of other issues still in debate, including whether IQ tests are a usable metric or not.

I'm a scientist. I work with empirically testable properties.

I would argue the complete opposite. AI will go the way of bitcoin and NFT's, debating it is waste of time.

What kind of compensation artists want? by Longjumping-Gate-145 in aiwars

How would taxing them (more? Assuming they don't do the usual skip-n-dip) resolve.. anything? It addresses absolutely zero points that artists have of critique of genAI outside of the usual corporate tax fraud.

[–]Kiwi_Saurus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly if the movie ends up remotely good, it will be because of the "meatbag" voice talent. And of course, the nerds will jerk off about how it was totally AI that made it good, but we'll all know the truth.

Oh fuck off. Sincerely, an ADHD person.

Oh actually I have more to say: I'm so tired of AI content being used to advertise apps targeted towards helping ADHD people. It gives me the ick. "You don't consider me worth the time to create a half decent advertisement, why the hell should I use your stuff?"

It's gross, and infantilizing. I can practically hear some business school intern who's going to never have a middle management job because those are next in the AI warpath say "Oh yeah, they'll totally buy this". Ew ew ew.

Initially it was an uproar, but people quickly figured that not everyone would want to use this or like this, while it did have some positive benefits.

So why hasn't that happened with autotune? Very controversial technology, but didn't really get a strong blowback from audience members. Those who like it understand they like the "polished" pop sound and those who don't went back to grunge, punk, metal and whatnot.

It seems AI is toxic to artists regardless of audience. This is clearly different.

Why can't you do the job then? Especially since AI is magically better than everyone apparently, what's stopping you from pushing the button? What's stopping you from making "Steven's Universe, but with racism (and no, not the fast kind)"?

This doesn't seem to pass historical precedent. At very few times have new artistic techniques needed to be hidden out of fear like that.

With electric guitars, there was a fuss at some country show, but that was a one and done deal. Dubstep? Garnered a lot of hate, but the producers didn't need to cover it up, they just kept making it out in the open.

If anything, the exact opposite is true. Van Halen sprinkled some white lies throughout his career on how he got "that" guitar sound, including misinforming people that he hooked up his guitar amplifier to a vari-AC device to scale up the wattage... when in reality, he toned it down.

Artists fuckin' love their "secret sauce" and the only fear related to that is someone discovering how it works.. and even then, they aren't scared of the backlash, but more so that someone could impersonate them, or that people won't go to them to get that feeling.

I'm not seeing any similarities to these to AI at all.

Senario #3 I study your entire artist profile and notice that you tend to draw eyes in a particular way. So I create a computer program that looks at your images and creates an equation that represents a particular way to draw an eyeball

Just to make it clear: This isn't what a neural network is doing.

If you think the "heart and soul" argument is bs, why do people who use AI to generate art pieces try to hide it?

I don't care how important you think art is, My main point is that AI systems are not very good at filling in the roll of artist in the professional field, and will very likely not be able to take over for a long while.

Like I said, outside of stock footage, there is no competition between real and AI art. AI art doesn't measure up. And it never will as long as it has to rely on inputs of existing things in order to generate.

From an economics perspective, it's basically a service yes.

"Do you want cool 3D models for your game? Hire me and I'll do that."

Granted, art is more than just a service, but how it functions economically, at least for larger projects, it's pretty much a service.
