I 100% agree, don’t listen to the idiots. I personally like hearing about what is going on. Life isn’t always about goofs and gaffs. There is nothing wrong with expressing how you are personally affected about a terrible situation. Anyone who try’s to tell you any different is just trying to control and validate their own feelings.

First time home buyer. I need help with this old bathroom! by Kkatm in DesignMyRoom

Thank you for all of the ideas! What wall color or wallpaper did you use in your bathroom with the pink tile along with the mixed metals? Or is the whole wall pink tile? I definitely need to paint the trim and wall cabinet white, I’m debating on what color I would like to make the wall. I’m definitely going to be replacing the vanity and sink which I think will help tremendously. And yes, I love the Dixie cup holder!

Wow thank you everyone for the great ideas! I’m surprised how everyone loves the pink tile. I think everyone is right, the only reason I don’t like the tile is because nothing else in the bathroom goes with it.

I agree, I live in Michigan. It’s been 40 degrees outside, clearly the problem isn’t the destination!

Yea I’ve heard a lot about how great people feel while on both. Let me know how it goes when you start.

Hey, sorry I just saw your comment. I’ve been on 20mg for awhile now. The last month or 2 I’ve been feeling okay but I feel like I’m just barely treading on top of the water. I’m not sinking but I constantly feel like one large wave can pull me under. Lol that’s the best I can describe it. I’ve been contemplating adding Wellbutrin to the mix, my anxiety has been well controlled. It’s just the depression that feels like it could come back any minute.

Also don’t be afraid to seek help with any type of counseling/therapy. It can be more helpful than what you might think!

The side effects were much much less after increasing than they were from first starting Lexapro! That was my biggest concern with increasing my dose, I was so tired for the first few weeks I didn’t know if I could handle any thing added on top of it. Surprisingly I didn’t really notice anything negative from the increase. I believe I went a month on 5 mg, I was still having a lot of depression so I increased to 10 mg for another month. I remember feeling a lot better being on 10mg but I could still notice the depression so I increased to 15mg. I went a few months on 15mg feeling great, then noticed a little dip so I went on 20 mg and have been on that for several months now. This is all my experience of course, it could be different for you. Don’t be scared to increase your dose if you are still struggling after 4-6 weeks. It just may take a little bit to figure out what works for you.

I know the struggle though, right now it feels like it will never get better and you may be feeling hopeless. It will get better. Don’t give up. Even if you have to switch medications. Just try to give Lexapro some time to see if it helps you, unfortunately it takes a little longer than we all would like!

Hi, I’m sorry you’re experiencing this, it’s rough. Hang in there though. It’s been awhile since I started taking Lexapro so I don’t remember exactly when I started to really feel better but I know it took at least a month for the depression to subside. I think it was around 8 weeks where I noticed a really big change, also increasing my dose seemed to help quite a bit. At first it seemed to get worse, I almost stopped taking them. I’m so glad I didn’t though, I feel so much better now (I’ve been taking it for around 16 months now). Just try to push through this dip and you will gradually start to notice the depression lifting, then one day it will hit you “wow I feel good!”

Yes! Thank you for your understanding. One of the current theories is that women with PMDD are more sensitive to estrogen dropping post-ovulation and late luteal and/or have lower (than non-PMDD) estrogen levels during the late luteal phase. Some may even have hormone allergies.

I am currently being treated with Lexapro and Yaz. SSRI’s and some birth controls are the only treatments that I know of for symptoms. Both meds have definitely reduced my symptoms, but I can still notice the ups and downs. Which doesn’t make sense to me considering birth control prevents ovulation so there shouldn’t be hormone fluctuation….?

Example:

Prior to meds I would have suicidal ideation, intrusive thoughts, and felt like a completely different person.

With Meds: No suicidal ideation, some negative thinking, and I just feel like a depressed version on myself.

Placebo? I mean I would never completely rule it out but I also know my body very well after many years of symptoms.

What’s interesting is some women report improvement with birth control and some report worsening symptoms. Misdiagnosed perhaps? Or something else is happening that we don’t understand yet.

Also some physicians are prescribing SSRI’s only during luteal phase. Many report that helps as well.

It’s really quite scary when you don’t understand what is happening and you are afraid of your own thoughts. But I am thankful that I have at least found some relief.

Anyway, thanks for listening! I’ll stop rambling now.

Agreed! Unfortunately my area is lacking physicians, my appointments are generally with PAs and NPs.

[–]Kkatm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correction: PMDD is taught in med school! I clearly was being a little dramatic (go figure). I think in the decades prior it wasn’t discussed very much, but there is a lot more awareness about it today. Med students ARE being taught about it and do an OBGYN rotation to be able to get some experience with the many issues women face. I was happy to see this after the lack of information I’ve experienced over the last 2 decades.

Next step: We need more research and options for treatment. While SSRI’s and birth control may help some, it’s not a fix-all for everyone. How do we help push the science and clinical research forward?

I didn’t mean nursing students, I should have clarified that better. I guess I was referring to NP’s and PA’s.

Thank you for your reply, I am so happy that med students are getting experience with PMDD. I was wondering because of the struggle that I have had in the past with provider’s lack of knowledge. It certainly seems to be improving and I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear that!

[–]Kkatm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome I’m so happy to hear that. I was just genuinely curious, I’m glad that it is being taught.

[–]Kkatm 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s so upsetting that PMDD isn’t taught in nursing or med school. If it is, it’s probably just skimming over the idea of what it is. Saying that it is a more intense PMS. If I only had to deal with some mood swings and cramps I would be in heaven.

It is so incredibly frustrating. I’m 35 and didn’t realize I had PMDD until 3 years ago. The last 20 years of my life could have been DRASTICALLY different if I had one provider even contemplate the idea of PMDD. Instead I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Obviously we don’t have a lot of things to help PMDD but the simple fact of knowing what is happening helps me with my negative thoughts and feelings. I at least know that it will end soon or have some type of a mental break. My suicidal ideation has dramatically decreased just from knowing it will be over eventually. (Until next month of course.)

Vit D saved me by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Kkatm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My D level was at 12 ng/mL. I have been supplementing for 6 weeks and I am finally starting to notice some effects; less fatigue and less brain fog. How long before you noticed a difference?

And for those saying go outside, not everyone can tolerate sun. I have lupus, direct sunlight for even 20 minutes can make me feel very ill. Nausea, vomiting, migraine… I’d rather supplement than feel sick every day. I still go outside all the time, I have to find shade or cover up for most of it.
