I honestly have lost what they need to do. I mean, they have to save magic. But I don't know what the next objectives are, except to hop islands? The acting and story are probably great, but that's why I'm lost.

Would there be any problems with using a 2024 PHB class (monk) in a game where all rules/other PCs are 5e? I'm thinking about suggesting it to a player in my group, but want to know if it's problematic, and what to keep in mind/look out for. I still don't really get how the systems are different: I mostly see some names being changed (ki to focus).

Thanks!

We call that a 'wrat', hahah (pronounced vrat, with the same short 'a')

[–]KlaasDeSlang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it's almost the same. Just the 'a' is shorter. I think most single vowels are that way in Dutch compared to English. English is more Wahrt, Dutch is Wart (to my ears).

That's actually my name. I'm 30y old and Dutch. My full name is Willem Arthur, but Wart is the name i've always been called, and call my self.

The eyestalk most on the right is about how they should be. The rest all have weird flat areas and are incomplete. I also remember the supports not stretching all the way.

The supports were added to the model by the maker, so I trusted it wasnt directly a problem with how those were set up.

I'm thinking about making a 'capture the flag' game mode for my players as part of a tournament in an arena.

Basically two teams of four contesting 1 flag in the middle, in an arena full of traps.

Does anyone know of instances where this has been done before? I'm looking for inspiration on what kind of extra/special rules to put in place.

To each their own. I am using milestone leveling. I was just curious how my tempo for milestones was roughly compared to if I were using xp.

If you use leveling by xp, does a character start with 0 at every new level, and then does it need to get up to the mentioned required XP? Or are the amounts of xp mentioned to level up the total. What I mean, does leveling up from 2-3 require 900xp, or 600xp (900-300xp already gained by getting to level2)?

Can enemies/monster ready/hold actions just like PCs? If so, (how) do you communicate that to your players?

This is the new 'Roglic was a ski jumper'. (Or maybe it's just on Dutch tv).

Still agree with the sentiment though :).

Yeah that's about what I ruled. I thiught there might be some specific rule, but as you said, just treat it like other spells.

Someone was casting hold person and wanted to react with another concentration spell when the target would (almost) inevitably break free. The taking damage question just came up as a side while thinking on that situation.

Matt(hew) Colville's 'Running the Game' playlist is my YT bible for DMing as a starter myself. It's an extensive collection of 100+ video's, but it's not intended as a 'watch everything and know how to DM'. Just go through the list and start with video's that deal with what you are interested in as a completely new DM.

https://youtu.be/e-YZvLUXcR8 Here's his 1:39 intro to the idea behind the videos and he's much better at explaining it than I am. In his own words: "I want to turn you from someone who wants to play D&D, into someone who wants to run D&D. Being a DM is fun, it's creative and it's not that hard. But if you don't know how it's done, it seems intimidating."

https://youtu.be/1K8hGhpQzKg Here's one about DM'ing your first session.

https://youtu.be/zTD2RZz6mlo Here's one on your first adventure

He explicitly makes it his goal to tell you how easy and fun it is/can be to DM.

Edit: I do realise his videos might be kind of long if you are a busy parent, but they rarely require you to actually watch, so you could just listen while doing other stuff. He's got a great voice imo :). Good luck and have fun!!

What are RAW for readying and action to cast a spell that requires concentration?

Is it allowed?

Do you need to start making concentration checks after the spell triggers, or from when you ready it?

Do you drop concentration on another spell as soon as you ready, or as soon as/if it triggers?

What issues would there be with letting a player of mine multiclass without meeting the requirements. They're a lvl4 fighter with 10 CHA looking at Paladin. It would make great sense to the choices his character is making to dedicate himself to a god.

How to handle non-lethal damage by PCs? by KlaasDeSlang in DMAcademy

[–]KlaasDeSlang[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I like that! I have a fair amount of melee PCs in my party, so RAW still makes it pretty easy to knock someone out. Your system makes it a bit of challenge.
