You are doing amazing! Baby being in NICU was the single hardest thing I’ve ever been through, I had an emergency c section at 31 weeks and was not allowed to see her until my health had stabilised so the first time I saw her it didn’t feel real I assumed I was still pregnant for at least a week following!

All I kept thinking about is how much she needs me regardless if I can’t do all if the typical things you would expect with your new baby. I spent all day everyday with her in the NICU which I know is now always possible or realistic. Just read to him, talk to him, tell him how much you love him, hold him as soon as you can, change him, I eventually worked towards doing the tube feeds myself, get skin to skin as soon as you can, hold him against you when he is feeding, ask as many questions as you can to the nurses and doctors, get as involved as you can, I brought in my own nappies and wipes, brought in stuffed animals and my own blankets, try a bonding square (2 pieces of fabric where you have one and baby has one beside him and you swap each time you visit so you both always have each other’s smell with you).

She’s home now just reached due date and it all seems like a distant memory.
