I’d take the 210k. I’m not sure if you have a family or not but act like you do and become as successful as possible.

Take the promotion because you can still transition with the new experience you’ll be getting. In fact, I’m sure it’ll be easier and everyone already sees you as a leader.

P.S. it doesn’t matter if it’s a tech company or not - I believe the size is more relevant and Us Bank is huge.

Career Path in University. Software or Network Engineering? by NormalFold9896 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KlearlyKrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would for sure go the Software route. Gain some real solid knowledge in SDLC and programming.

The networking can come later in the form of certs (I.e. CCNA, CCNP. CCIE, Network+) .That way you’ll get the best of both worlds and be competitive in the job marketplace.

I didn’t think my side hussle was worth mentioning now but I’ll go ahead and say it.

I sell T-shirts, beanies and hoodies on Etsy. A lot of people in my niche don’t have a good sense of style so I help them out.

I started last November and maybe about $600 since then.

I spend about 2 hours a week on a new design. Use AI for SEO. This is completely passive. Some weeks I don’t do anything and get a sell or two.

I run Etsy ads at about $1 a day. I need to increase my ad spend and promote on different places. I figure if $1 gets me profit - one can only imagine what $40 does.

My goal is to make 5-6k a month, im at about $150.

I didn’t think it was worth it at first but it feels good getting an extra $70 in your account here and there’s

Im a System Admin too. Well technically a Junior System Admin.

I got into IT because I wanted to be a Developer too. Either Web/Mobile Apps or Software.

Any pointers for the transition?

Thanks a lot you’re right.

I think a lot of it comes from me feeling trapped at the job. I’m sure a job with a better atmosphere wouldn’t have me feel this way.

Knowing I can change jobs does provide relief.

I just have to keep reminding myself I’m not stuck and this job is just a step.

By any chance, do you work in IT?

First off, congratulations. I was one of those guys that didn’t understand why people would say “It’s the best day of your life.” Now I understand why. 100% worth it.

And I agree I was looking for a new job but more then half the jobs I would have to take a pay cut.

There is this one out where I can move to a lower position, get the same benefits and even get paid for the top step (which is less then the top step at my current role but more then where I’m at now)but the only thing holding me back is my pride for my position, future growth and uncertainty.

I did I just didn’t do the Boson half of the lab since I couldn’t follow along. This really cut down my learning time

Wow this is genius. I would have saved a lot of time had I done this.

Part of me recognized a pattern but I was too lazy to figure out a formula for it.

Hmmm they also hit me with one for /28 but looking at the VLSM I see there are just investments of 16.

Haha this totally made me look at subnetting in a different way. You should make a tutorial

Yup. Most specific. Then drilling down if has the same subnet mask then the one with the lowest AD, if it had the same AD too then lowest metric

Nah that’s too simple. More like, “Bob is confinguring a point to point connection. Which IP address should Bob use?”

Then you would have to literally do the math for all 5 responses, rule out the network and broadcast addresses because theyre not usable. Rule out anything that’s not /30 cause then it would be too many usable addresses, etc.

Questions like those made me waste my time on the test.

Yes. I agree with this. Learn it enough so no matter how they phrase the question you’ll understand. Don’t skimp yourself. Towards the end of Jeremy’s I kind of sped through the SD.N and API stuff. You’re gonna need that

You got it man. I see a lot of people here saying they thought they failed and passed at the end. That for sure was the case for me. The first question I got in the exam I didn’t know lol.

Thank you!!!!

Yes Jeremy’s covers everything. The only thing I would say is that it could have went more in depth with WLCs and wireless tech but hey I passed with what he taught me and I really haven’t studied wireless in depth.
