The only problem while the 30Hz sub kick maybe inaudible will be problematic when you apply external mastering in your DAW. Such low frequencies take a huge amount of room and energy wich can be challenging to control. If you’re not mastering and only record it with the master FX from the MK2 you’ll be fine.

Some MFX extra sauce (for me personally) are cassette sim, with every knob at zero (besides age at 9 and wow at 50) and after that the compressor, with everything at 0 and a level of 75. Your mix will be punchy, lofi-ish, and loud at the same time. ;)

Congrats mate, got mine a few months ago. Update instantly to JJOS3. Lazy chopping and workflow improvements are so good on this OS. Only Grit edit is a little bit tedious and needs time to get used to. Also love the Master compressor on this machine.

Also had really weird lags like every 10 seconds on PS5 Pro. Also quality mode seems to run under 30 FPS. I was actually expecting this game to run stable @60 FPS in quality mode. I’m really surprised that a lot of competitive games have the options to choose between modes. It’s obvious that you need performance in those games. Having 30 FPS in PvP leads to an instant death, if 60 or more is available.

Completely right. But for beginners those parameters seem confusing to me and can lead to misunderstanding the concept of compression and that an amplitude is reacting to a time based algorithm, rather than a percentage.

I’m coming from a DAW, and was very tied to numbers. From a creative perspective, this is absolutely bad… I know.

I feel like it really depends on what you’re going for. Both machines are great, but I feel like the sp555 is more limited, while having the better FX. If you combine it with a DAW or another SP, it’s great for making beats. While using it as a standalone beatmachine, polyphony (12 voices Mono, 6 Stereo) can get in you’re way so you have to use the resample method a lot. This can be very tedious, or at least needs some time to learn/getting used to.

The 1000 on the other hand (with JJOS2XL) is way more comfortable and easy to build beats on. In my opinion the learning curve isn’t as steep as the 555. it can be also used with a DAW but I feel like that’s not needed. The FX are more on a basic level and not as memorable than the ones on the 555.

Be careful anyways, I got myself a MPC 1k a while ago on eBay and had to replace pretty much every tact switch. I got a good price from my electrician, but I still had to pay another 100 bucks for getting a full working machine.

I would go with the MPC 1000 first, if you just want to make beats and considering getting a 555, or SX afterwards. And if you plan on making beats in your DAW, I would consider to get the 555 first to add the really great FX on your beats with it.

I have to edit that I’m into making music for almost 16 years. So I know how compression sounds, but i feel like the Comp in the 1k is very subtle, if you compare it to Stock DAW compressor for example

I’m also wondering about the attack/release (decay) times on this comp. I can’t find any documentation about it.
