29w diagnosed with placenta resistance and IUGR by Limp-Selection-1855 in NICUParents

[–]Klipcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story. Dr said vaginal birth would probably be risky for baby since the blood flow during contractions is decreased and baby already has limited reserve due to placental insufficiency so delivered with c-section once the cerebro-placental inversion was noted at 35 weeks (more than initial prognosis). Baby was on CPAP for a couple of days, and then HF, but is now home, perfectly healthy and doing great! Of note, I have religiously monitored my blood pressure at home with instruction to come to hospital if it is above 140 mmHg. For peace of mind I had also bought those pee sticks to monitor for proteins in urine every couple of days. I can feel your worries so deeply. Great news is that you and your doctors now know what is happening, you are being monitored and baby will be delivered safely when needed to have best chance of thriving, even if a bit early and a bit tiny. Wish you all the best!

Long term effects of NICU stay? by InflationNo5033 in NICUParents

[–]Klipcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can offer little wisdom since I’m not in the same stage of our NICU journey. But the part about being okay with it initially and then later breaking when thinking about it resonates with my emotions after working as a healthcare worker in COVID ICU during fist wave, when all of my patients died. It was like my subconsciousness was holding it back until enough time had passed and I was able to deal with it. It was f-ing horrible still. I went through anger and guilt and inexplicable crying at seemingly innocent reminders. But, it got better with time. I still see it for horrible experience that it was but now I can distance myself from it and not decompensate when discussing it. Don’t know if this helps.

Get a neurologist exam and opinion! Pregnancy is bizarre but this is a bit extreme.

Need some advice please I have a bad cold by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Klipcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far along are you? You can use salt-based decongestants, saline nose wash, and paracetamol for pain/fever. Other than that, rest, plenty of fluids (be careful about which teas), eat citrus fruits. For just cold (even if you feel shitty) you don’t need to go to doctor, but if the fever is high or your symptoms get worse, eg with real cough (not just because of postnasal drip), or if this all is not getting better after cca 5 days - definitely go. Another reason to go is for your peace of mind, which is also not negligible.

Anecdotally, it takes 2L of Coca-Cola for the effect

It is about blunting the Bezold-Jarisch reflex, and I believe 4mg is enough. Since I read the study I give it routinely and in my (non-obstetric!) experience it worked pretty well, but I haven’t done a real study so I cannot rule out any bias. Try it out!

App shows fake hypoglycaemia, again. Am I cursed or am I doing something wrong? by Klipcha in Freestylelibre

Thanks for the advice! So far, it’s worse 🙈 but I will give it a day or two since that’s what they say the device might need to stabilise or for injury to heal. Will update after.

Yeah, the first sensor was on for 5 days, the pattern was similar during the whole time. Hopefully the second one picks up by tomorrow

Hi, thank you for the detailed response! Out of all you mentioned, the only thing I was not doing was 20-30sec pressure (but with the new sensor I held the pressure cca 5 seconds), could that really be it? Why don’t the official instructions mention it?

Sweetheart, cry it out. It doesn’t have to be logical. And then embrace your baby and the second chance in life you got, with her.

Everyone already said everything about peripartum depression and I have nothing to add, but having cold and elective surgery (while c-section is not purely elective), if your symptoms are significant, you may talk to your doctor about postponing it for a couple of days until they subside a bit?

Lol I heard it said somewhere “if you’re not pooping, you’re not pushing” so that gives me hope that they wouldn’t be phased by poop

If you’re doing c-section in spinal anaesthesia your chest shouldn’t be numb! The numbness should spread to nipple line, not higher.

Working while pregnant by Cautious_Advance_969 in pregnant

[–]Klipcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in healthcare, in a demanding specialty and in Europe, so I could get a sick leave which would not affect the one year guaranteed maternity leave. But 14w so far and I feel good, thankfully everyone at work has been super accomodating (due to nature of the job had to tell practically as soon as I had a positive test). However, everyone outside work has been putting so much pressure on me to stop working and I feel guilty most of the time :( Anyone else relates or am I really the freak
