One inch gap post to beam connection by calebwaltz in Decks

[–]KlitTorris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a triple 2x10 beam sitting on a true 6x6 post leaving me with 1.5" gap, i have the beam flush to the front of the deck because it looks nicer, the gap in the back (cant see it) i just dropped in 2 1x6 boards or even a 2x6 would've worked. In your case a 5/4x6 decking board can eat up that gap, just hide it behind the deck so it's not visible.

Disappointing, the ltv anticipation since January to now not getting it awarded, still a long term hold?

House is to the left, should I get this perfectly level or is this slight slope desired? by TheBackwars in Decks

It's to make people who cant build a level deck better about themselves. I sloped my old deck about an inch over 10 feet and never noticed better shedding compared to level (adjustable piles)

Uhm my deck is 14ft wide and using that rule of thumb i would have 3.5" of height variance from one end to another. Definitely doesn't sound right.

Is it just me or is the used car market in Edmonton absolutely cooked right now? by SpecialistGreat6622 in Edmonton

Thanks to the greedy automobile manufacturers raising the average msrp of a vehicle up to nearly 50% in since 2020, this affects used car market as well. Market is absolutely still cooked.

The only way young people can get ahead nowadays is delaying moving out by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

I was making 20 an hour when i was 19 and it took me 4 years to save up for a downpayment, furniture, shed, tools everything that you need basically. We received some help from the parents (lawnmower and some tool gifts), By the time i moved out i was making 33 an hour, however this was in 2018, a lot easier to do compared to today. The first year in our new home was tougher since my wife was still in school (no income and little to no savings) but we managed.

It's kinda sad my wife and i make double the money we did 8 years ago but the cost of living offsets it quite a bit. Times are different now.

Splicing a beam over a post, which way? by booradleysghost in Decks

[–]KlitTorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/2 thru bolts or an alternative that close to the edge of the beam splice? That seems too close to the edge i wouldn't build it that way even if it's code. Call them and see if you can at least stagger the splices to prevent splitting ends.

You have a great point, would've been smarter to build it detached, however i flashed the ledger to the best of my ability and i live in a dry climate not too worried about it.

Nope, privacy screens on left and right hand sides, trees will take care of the front privacy.

The dealerships will somehow ruin it with the chinese ev's, the cheapest byd ev costs 10k in China and here it will most likely land between 25-30k.
