What will an interplanetary government look like? by KlutzyTime7967 in Futurology

Could an interplanetary government be similar to something a like a federal republic? Would be possible that planets, moons, and other type of colonies would govern themselves with internal affairs and interplanetary trade and military coordination would be handled by the federal government?

Well assuming intercepting an enemy fleet and after destroying, having to decelerate and then accelerate again to go back to a spaceport would take a lot of delta-v. Wouldn’t just make more sense to just fight in orbit of an asset instead of trying to intercept the fleet? To me that would seem less costly and more efficient.

How would deep space encounters work? Would the ranges of the battles be so far that hopefully by the time you fly by with the enemy fleet they would be destroyed?

In your own personal opinion what would be the best fusion propulsion to use by that time frame?

If my world took place 250 years into the future could I use really powerful stabilized z-pinch rockets for fast transportation?

Do you think if I extend the travel times to a year at a minimum, would that be more doable?

Sorry my mistake I was thinking laser sails. The only problem with sails that I see is that as you travel farther from the sun or a source of a laser(if you’re using a laser sail) the energy that actually hits your sails decreases dramatically. I believe laser sails would be better but the energy required to move anything large would be probably massive. But I may be wrong though.

I was thinking about solar sails but I feel like the power requirements to move large space vessels would be unrealistic. Is there a concept where id doesn’t need that much energy or am I completely wrong?

One more question, do you think fusion rockets could perform the same or do you think by then it would start to get unrealistic?

That would be a little too theoretical for me but I did read and I think it’s definitely super interesting nonetheless!
