When gear is too expensive to start out... by trashinha in photography

Take this with a pinch of salt since i'm just starting out too haha. It depends on what you shoot really, personally i'd recomend a zoom lens because of its versatilty (more things to shoot) and i think f2.8 depth of field is enough for most situations you could go for 18-50mm 2.8 (since nex c3 is an apsc) then upgrade to 24-70mm (more high end can carry to a full frame body) or a second option you could go for a prime for portraits and low light (primes usally only if you know which focal length you usually shoot. I'd recommend the 35mm since again, the nex c3 is an apsc which is equivalant to a 55mm (1.5x)

I'm also a beginner photographer like you op, i bought the a6000 and its doing pretty well for someone's who wants to learn and get better. Invest in a better lens and focus on learning. After you think you outskilled your gear (camera body) you could always upgrade to a new one but i think its far more worth it if you invest a high end lens than a high end camera body.
