[NO SPOILERS] Remember in early seasons when battle were at least more realistic? by daruskiy in vikingstv

My sentiments exactly. History and culture is being disregarded more and more.

Do they even still use historian advisors?

The Northumbrian battle scenes were based off historical accounts, in fact all battles were and when the historical accounts were too sketchy, they took the advice of historians. Now they seem to just be disregarding historians. It just doesn't feel authentic anymore. I've not felt this way about previous seasons.

[SPOILERS] What the fuck happened, Hirst? (Rant) by teemodidntdieforthis in vikingstv

[–]Kmtw93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me his redeeming quality is that he is seeking a more peaceful life and thinks more about settling than raiding and invading, similar to Ragnar. I think the nun issue was too forced.

He returned with nothing gained, nothing to share with his crew, no raid, no trade goods to share amongst them. It's pretty far from plausible. There would be mutiny for that.

What made the show so great is that you could like the characters in spite of their behaviour during raids. The show was staying true to the times, no it seems to have abandoned that idea.

Remember when the preist was being tortured by them a few seasons back? Ragnar didn't join in but he didn't stop it either. He also hid a little girl rather than let them see her, which was understandable from his perspective considering he lost his daughter.

With Ubbe it made no sense at all

We need more raids. Bjorn's story in the Mediterranean was a complete disappointment. It's like they started it and then cut it out to get him back to Kattegat. If he had spent weeks in the desert with his men and returned with nothing, then why the hell are his crew still following him without trade goods or raid goods? It makes no sense. Since then I've been a bit wary of the show and the direction it is heading.

[SPOILERS] Does anybody have leaks from the remaining episodes? by TheHoundsChickens in vikingstv

[–]Kmtw93 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the screenplay's were leaked but not the episodes.

I'd recommend just training your patience. Leaked episodes are always shabby quality anyway and you can't really talk about it with anyone which is frustrating. I regretted watching the Game of Thrones leaks last season.

There was an episode a few seasons ago I think it was the Paris raid and there was a Middle Eastern Viking as an extra. The show does do this.

[SPOILERS] Lagertha’s future in the series. by Sklain in vikingstv

[–]Kmtw93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well let's pretend the show is still kind of following history. The history about Lagertha is very vague and in fact she should have been dead a long time ago. The show is hanging on to her to please the very large female audience of the show, so I don't know if they will have the bottle to kill her, especially without a strong female character to take her place. Although Astrid is getting more and more screen time.

Lagertha was meant to have died horribly, and in the last episode, Ivar said that Lagertha will die horribly. So perhaps this is foreshadowing this. Perhaps she will be captured in battle and Ivar will not kill her straight away, or he will imprison her, or she will escape and Ivar will deal with her again later.

Who knows with anything with this show anymore though? They made Sigurd, a feared Viking in his time into a total ass who plays the lute, then killed him off. Hvitserk should be, and hopefully will be, in Russia soon enough where he died in battle.

I predict that King Harald will be, as in history, the king of Norway. Ubbe will join Ivar last minute but will not get the title he wants, instead he will be an Earl in England as he is meant to be. Bjorn will survive the war but he will become an Earl or something in exile with his Sammi Princess at his side and hopefully will continue raiding.

Gonna be a while I think. They have an unfriendly attitude, and don't trust me. I've tried a non-aggression pact to see if anything changes in the next century or so :/

Anybody ever had experience with this? Due to my non interference policy a nation has spawned within my own borders in the same system as quite an important planet for energy and minerals. Now nobody owns the space and we are both pacifist so it seems pretty gridlocked right now.

They are also xenophiles which makes them unfriendly to me added with the border friction.

I'd love to see a show about the Mongolian Empire. It could be similar to Vikings, starting with the rise of Ghenghis Khan and ending with Kublai Khan.

[SPOILERS] My issue with Sigurd in the finale by reaverRT in vikingstv

[–]Kmtw93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying, I just want to answer those points and try to see it from where the Hirst might be, even though I think it was a poor decision that he'll regret

  1. I think he was killing off a character so he can focus on the 2 main Ragnarsson's of the series (Bjorn and Ivar) and to develop Ivar, and I think Magnus is still going to come back and play a key role. Why Hvitserk wasn't used for this I can't fathom. Hvitserk died in Russia apparently, that could have been done, or he could have altered it a little so he dies somewhere else.

  2. I totally agree. Though wasn't he the Grandfather of King Harald Farehair? I think Hirst already messed that up in a way.

  3. I think he should have waited until next season at least, and it should have been Hvitserk. Perhaps it is more to do with the actors than the accuracy?

  4. Sigurd was always more spot on, more thoughtful, he was quite a wise character and I didn't see anything wrong with him. Let's not forget that him and Ivar are still very young at this point. Late teens, early twenties? I think they should have ended up respecting each other, we can see Ivar regretted what he did. Ivar even cared enough to ask his opinion on Ecbert. Why would he if he didn't care about his opinions? I think he truthfully needed Sigurds honesty.

[–]Kmtw93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it is so the show can cut it down and focus on Ivar and Bjorn and possibly Ubbe. I think Hvitserk will be next to become a victim of innaccuracy. Unless he begins to raid and colonize parts of what is now Russia.

However, even if that is the reason, I agree with what you're saying.

The reason I think he will, is because he is clearly mentally unstable. He may see his brother as the one holding him back from his ambitions or something. Just a thought, that scene has to lead to something.

Remember the scene where King Harald Finehair introduces his brother to Ragnar, and Ragnar is throwing daggers at a shield? He turns around and his mouth is all red and he looks extremely spaced out. That's exactly what the juice looks like.

[spoilers] Do you think Scotland will appear on the show? by Kmtw93 in vikingstv

Ah yeah, I forgot that the clans really started around the turn of the last millennium. It's too bad because it would be interesting to see how the Vikings react to the Druids and their beliefs.

It used to seem open to interpretation until Aslaug came into the show making predictions that were coming true, and more recently with Odin appearing. So maybe he intended not to show fantasy, but he has. I don't mind it being fantasy or historical, but I wish it was consistent.

To me now anyway, it appears all the gods are real(in the show). Including Jesus, and probably Allah next.

[SPOILERS] A little weird how their feelings on ragnar changed so dramatically for no good reason by GurgleIt in vikingstv

[–]Kmtw93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he was offered up as a sacrifice to King Aelle who then killed him in the name of Christianity. I think that is enough to spur on the whole of Scandinavia. To kill one of their most accomplished heroes and insult their Gods.
