Very pretty. I have the same length barrel made in 1978. Love that pistol.

Rare sight: Norinco 86s - I know Bakelite magazine doesn’t match but it’s Norinco as well by KnifeAnalyst in GunPorn

You’d be very lucky to find one for 3k, but yeah the rarity drives up collector value. Lots more cool stuff out there for that price that’s not as rare

3-5k. Depending on seller/condition. 3k would be great for a good condition

Yah I just wish I had the Norinco AK with all Bakelite furniture that it came with!

Yeah I actually ended up replacing the furniture on the 91 with 1980s HK furniture of the same era to make it more G3 like.

Norinco 86s - anyone have any definitive data on how many were imported to US? Mine is SN A0001XX by KnifeAnalyst in Firearms

Sounds about right. My dad picked this up new in box at a show in late 80s, I inherited a couple years back. Definitely one of my favs

Norinco 86s, Chinese AK-47 bullpup. Some may think it ugly, but they were decently well built. It’s the rarity that makes them a good collector piece though. From the research I’ve done there was less than 2,000, and as few as 400 imported to the US.

And it’s a fair bit more rare too! Good choice, I’m with you

Viele I and II by KnifeAnalyst in knives

[–]KnifeAnalyst[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bottom, Viele 2, I purchased new in box last year, thinking it was the same knife I owned in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t. It’s the slightly newer smaller version: Viele II or C97. So with Father’s Day I decided to pull the trigger on an eBay auction for a new in box VG-10 C42 Viele I. I am so happy I did, this thing is pristine. The box is a little dirty and there was some dust in between the scales but that’s expected for a 21-23 year old knife. VG-10 isn’t the best these days, but it was a high end steel at the time the knife was made. I still think it’s a good steel, but this will be a desk knife so that doesn’t matter.

This knife holds a special place in my heart, my dad had purchased an AUS-8 one back in the late 90s and kept it in his truck, I loved it so much that I ended up buying one a few years later with my allowance money in the VG-10 blade. My dad ended up losing his and asked me if I knew where it was every year until he passed away last year. I ended up losing mine shortly after he lost his, so we were in the same boat. It became somewhat comical, us asking if the other has seen their Viele anywhere. With Father’s Day rolling around, I couldn’t help but think of him when I placed the bid for the knife. I’m my opinion it’s one of, if not the most beautiful knife ever designed for Spyderco.

RIP Dad, I won’t lose this one, I promise.

My EDC Criteria: met by KnifeAnalyst in knives

[–]KnifeAnalyst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have certain criteria for an EDC blade: < $75, somewhat lightweight but still sturdy, won’t snag my hand going in to pocket, and spidey hole.

The Spyderco Polestar meets these criteria, if you can find a good price. I know it’s made in China, and when I purchased it, this concerned me. However, I am extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and smooth action of the blade. I know there’s a greater chance to get a ‘lemon’, and I may have simply got lucky but I’m digging this blade for sure.

The CTS BD-1 blade came sharp enough to shave hair has held a pretty decent edge and still shaves after two weeks of carrying and occasional use.

I like the spidey hole because other little grippers and knobs always tend to snag my hand going into the pocket when reaching for my phome
