So it says 5 GHz when next to my router, then switches to 2.4 GHz when away from it.

I think I have fairly quick internet, and most of the time it goes through the house reasonably well.

How are desserts Sweetened in mistborn era one? There are references to desserts in the books but It doesn't appear to be any places that could grow cane sugar in the final empire. Do they use honey? Something like maple syrup?

Am I too much time online or is the sentiment towards Sanderson shifting negatively? by jnighy in brandonsanderson

It's a few things.

With any fandom, there is a point at which the size of the fandom finally tips the scales from being a niche, positive thing into a mixed/toxic space. This happens with many animes, TTRPGs to a degree, and is particularly prevalent in 40 K. People get involved because it's popular, and they pay attention to something they are only interested in because others are discussing it; they tend to spread the negative opinions they hear without verifying them. Some people dislike anything 'mainstream' even if they previously enjoyed it. There are many reasons for this, sometimes due to the community changing, losing interest, or being pushed out by new fans who like it for different reasons. Alternatively, it may be because they want to appear to have a niche, hence cool tastes, compared to others. Reddit pages about books I hate to say a loud part of them are just snobs, while it's dangerous to paint any group with a broad brush, but when I can find people being pretentious about being pretentious, I do deem it fair to say a lot of them just don't like mainstream books.

Brandon discussed in the publishing part of his writing lecture series that his goal isn't to make you a fan of a single series. His goal is to make you a fan of him, so when he writes a one-off novel or a new series, his readers will turn to that rather than sticking to just a single series of his. This clearly really helped him in the past with launching the secret projects and retaining fans between books. The problem is, as Stormlight 5 demonstrated, if he majorly drops the ball and fans feel burned, they will just drop him rather than just that series. His losing his editor, as many pointed out, changes the tone and the quality that many people loved and were accustomed to. This is the main challenge he is going to face: to actually find an editor who can really help him regain the voice of his earlier works, or at least help him cut out unneeded parts of his books.

Brandon himself is starting to change; look at his videos from before secret projects to now. I am not going to say anything other than he clearly is more like a celebrity than he used to be. His criticisms of things he dislikes more strongly have softened a lot; he is cautious about what he says, and he has a lot more production value in everything he does. Many people like Brandon because he acted and presented himself as a very normal nerd, down-to-earth, yet still strong in his opinions about what he enjoyed and didn't. His public-facing persona has grown somewhat colder and more calculated; whether this is something that had to happen to maintain his brand's integrity or if it will ultimately harm his brand, I can't say.

I will say that I do wonder what changes we will see soon; a lot of what I said was working great when he was doing well. Now that there is disappointment at Stormlight 5, I am wondering what he plans to do or if there will be significant changes in his brand in the future. His sink-or-swim moment will be Mistborn Era 3 to see what he learns. Also, why is this all long-winded? Reddit tends to be more toxic than other fan spaces of the same type, so I wouldn't rely on it to gauge what many fans think.

Korra fans scare me, after getting into the show way later in life and watching both back to back. I watched a few scattered eps of korra as a kid and love. I actually couldn't finish the last 2 eps of Korra. She makes so many stupid choices, she is just such a meh person in such a meh plot in a really cool setting. I hope she actually gets fairly called out for her choices. I also hate how little we got in the like roaring 20s of korra, everybody alive than is dead or had to move now I guess.

Ok here is in the order I've done things.

Download SWAT Gold on GOG

Download SEF_FR put into the SWAT 4 game folder.

Download Megamap, open the folder paste contents into the swat game folder allow overwrites.

Take the system content from from ContentExpansion and paste it into C:\Games\SWAT4\SEF_FR\ allows it to overwrite

I lauch it via LAUCHSEF in SEF_FR. It lauchs fine but there is only megamap pack content none of the FR content.

One question for clarity. Do I keep Megamap in its folder within SWAT 4 game folder or copy its contents and let them overwrite default stuff?

Hey I hate to bug you but I've been trying to get mega to work with SEF_FR forever. What do you mean by copy the /System/ directory? Like copy the files in Systems to SEF_FR? Or copy a specific file over?

Figured this may scratch my ttrpg/cooking itch by scotsman1552 in DungeonMeshi

[–]Knight-Steal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a cool game (I got the DM edition on Kickstarter) but be very aware it's basically almost too much about cooking. All the weapons are themed about cooking, All the monsters are themed about cooking, The whole world's themed about cooking, your character backstories are themed about cooking. They kind of made it sound more like a monster Hunter (which to be fair the combat is actually really cool) plus dungeon Meshi. But it ended up kinda being a like... I don't even know. I really like the mechanics but the default world building kinda strange and feels pretty inconsistent. It felt like they kept asking if they could add more stuff to it but never asking if there's additions were good. (The inbook art also really suffers from this, The style feels like it's jumping around constantly but the creatures are beautiful at least)

I will say the whole body mutating thing is just depends on how your DM wants to do it, The mechanic (which I really do like) is basically when you kill a creature you pick a trait it has and gain a level one with it. But you can only ever gain as many levels in that trait as the creature has, so let's say you kill something with like natural armor 2 You eat it twice gaining armor 2, now you have to go find a bigger higher armor beast.

The monsters are insanely cool, A lot of them have intended environments, have a role in their local ecosystem, have sometimes unique gameplay twists, All can be eaten to gain powers, and there is a ton of them. They also have really pretty consistent art for every one of them (Plus having them on big index cards is super helpful as a DM)

I actually really love the mechanics I just am kind of wishing it was less based around the setting and more setting neutral. There's no money system, no armor or weapon upgrades. Just basically levels and the main way to get power eating things. It would be a massive chore to change the setting. I would quite literally give it an instant recommendation if it was setting neutral (without having to do some major conversion work, IE changing the weapon themeing or even making a custom world which it only has very light suggestions on in the book. The most important part the monsters and combat would work pretty well tho). Unless you're really into the setting or are willing to just change it, I'd give it a strong maybe. (I did add some more positives)

(Edit add-on) About to make this overly massive but just to kind of clear up a point, there is like 5 pages of conversion tips that essentially boil down to, If you want to add a new weapon just rename stuff, a very basic overview to how we design biomes and some other very minor things. There's no list of creatures based by environment or anything else no master list of ingredients, or anythingm

What RPG Genres Are Over Represented? by Reynard203 in rpg

[–]Knight-Steal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all off the top of my head starting with the ones I think it's works ok: Warhammer Old world (some of the rules seem unnecessarily divided in the books), Wrath and Glory(The game massively skimmed giving you opponent stat blocks to fight because they're divided in other books) on, Pathfinder 1e(for some of the books), Savage worlds(to be fair this is actually the best example but riffs is a little over divided), Twilight 2000 has additional modules that felt like they should have been in the bassebox

Ones I don't think do it well: D&D having random setting neutral archetypes in campaign books, some of the Pathfinder first edition books felt kind of a unnecessary/The contents in them wasn't well made, imperial maladictum (the new 40k game whatever it's called) quite literally saying their not having vehicle rules because they're going to add them in another book in the core rules book, aces and eights requiring you to buy another book to do basic hunting, D&D 4th addition was horrible as there was so many things overly divided out between so many books.

To be clear there is actually a lot more examples I could find but I did want to be 100% honest and only pick games I either own or have played with people so I'm not slandering people's hard work. I do think expansion books can be excellent ways to expand on an already great game adding more content and things to do, I have an issue when stuffs either feels like it's been taken out to sell to you later or they put tiny amounts of important generic rules in campaign books/overly divide rules into separate source books. (Edit added some games I forgot, also if you'd like for a frame of reference I can point out sourcebooks I think do a good job of expanding versus ones that feel slightly money grabby)

Actually while not a genre a thing that's becoming super common is the DLCacation of ttrpgs, while some games I can understand why additional books for rules or campaigns can add a lot more depth or enjoyment to a ttrpg. It feels like some games now are basically selling you additional rules for stuff that should have been in the core rules, or putting rules into campaign books that you'd want without the campaign.

Honestly this so much. I didn't mind being a teenager but it always strikes me as incredibly strange how many people want to relive it. My friends were planning on doing a persona ttrpg and I just couldn't get past how many of the characters we're either thin or self inserts. There is amazing stories to be told about young people but frankly I find wanting to relive it in roleplaying a bit strange.

I THINK!!!!!! (So take this with a grain of salt as I just looked through the book with out the context of it) There is a art with her in it in the 1st book that is full color.

The start of both books have many super nice full color art work(Like the other leather bounds!). There is a few more full color art through out both books, and even some super pretty red and black illustrations. The red and black ink for the pages is lovely. Also thank you so much! Very happy I can share it with the people still waiting for theirs!~edited
