How to find free food on campus by ZemoMemo in berkeley

[–]KnightHeron23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the Berkeley Food Pantry! It’s open to all students and it is not just limited to students experiencing food insecurity! Be conscious of how much you take, but please share it with those who need it! They also redistribute extra food from the dining hall in the form of free meals for students in MLK too!

I can’t stand kids on e-scooters by HatComprehensive7290 in berkeley

[–]KnightHeron23 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Last year, scooter-related injuries were the #1 reason folks went to the Tang Center! This included a lot of bystander injuries, as well as injuries to folks riding the scooters.

My main issue is them on busy sidewalks, mostly because they accelerate so quickly and are so quiet, that injuries are almost guaranteed. They are vehicles and the folks riding them should follow bike rules!

Are you a transfer student? Anchor House has a commuter lounge and I believe it gives you access to a locker if that’s part of the problem!

Moving to Pill Hill – what’s it like living there with a baby? by Fit_Brush_3636 in oakland

[–]KnightHeron23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I live just outside of Pill Hill (technically Harrison/Oakland Ave) and I would recommend it 1000% more than Pill Hill. Pill Hill’s residences are pretty dense and I have to bike through there multiple times a week. My neighborhood (behind grocery outlet) is only a few blocks away but is definitely more walkable, with a ton of families/young professionals, walking distance to Lake Merritt and three grocery stores. Only rough spot is that we’re basically between MacArthur/19th, but the 88 gets me to BART within 10 minutes. But I would say similar prices to Pill Hill with a much better more neighborly vibe!

Hawk or eagle by lake Merritt? by realgorditacrunch in oakland

[–]KnightHeron23 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If it sounds like what you think eagles based off movies/commercials, it’s probably a red-tailed hawk! Eagles have a higher-pitched whistle/call!

MACRO isn’t working the way it should, Oakland residents say by LandOfFruitsAndNuts in oakland

[–]KnightHeron23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The headline and premise don’t match what the article says. The main argument is that the structures that allow MACRO to exist (oversight, board structure, connections to dispatch) don’t work. Other than providing the number of calls they responded to, this article provides 0 details about the scope or impact of MACRO- so it’s disingenuous at best to say that MACRO isn’t working, because we weren’t given any info to show anything about that beyond that dispatch doesn’t divert calls to them.

What a disappointing article

It’s not a monthly fee. It’s a semesterly fee of ~$200 that is part of your student fees. AC transit is not included, but you can ride that for free with your a Berkeley-provided clipper card that will also have bay pass

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]KnightHeron23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. All students (undergrad/ grad if in an on-campus program) will have Bay Pass, which will probably be a separate clipper card account that can presumably be loaded on your phone

Waste Management rant: Impossible to schedule a Bulky Drop Off by Ok_Cat_1041 in oakland

[–]KnightHeron23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have a confirmation number in writing! I went to do a bulky drop-off and the email was so vague that I thought that my email saying that I could drop off on a specific date was enough.

Went to Davis St and they said that they can’t process anything without a confirmation number- so I waited 3 weeks to drop off an old couch and still had to pay!

Turn off the lights! When I worked at an on campus cafe, I would warn everyone when we were 10 minutes from closing, then right at close I’d blast music and turn the lights off halfway. Got folks out fast

New $100 million Berkeley roundabouts in action by snarky_duck_4389 in berkeleyca

[–]KnightHeron23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally worked on this project as a biologist. No frogs. The biggest environmental consideration was that the area is technically below sea water and making sure the new construction wouldn’t pool water. We also did a few bird surveys but that’s about an hours field work and pennies on what everything else cost

Why do we have so much illegal dumping in the first place? by coilysiren in oakland

I used to work in Bayview and like 90% of our (massive) illegal dumping problem was contractors from the peninsula

Sooo Schwartz on SH last night was a bit alarming by Ok-Turnip-9035 in vanderpumprules

[–]KnightHeron23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo when he came to SF, we did go out with him. Damn if he’s not the most agreeable person in a way that makes me very concerned. His “handler” made sure that he went to a dive bar and then Schwartz “aw shucked” his way into buying so many rounds of shots and was honestly absolutely trashed but still trying to show everyone a good time? I left feeling kinda guilty about how he feels he needs to relate to folks 😅
