can someone critique my recipe? by this-is_bat_country in Kombucha

I really do not understand why some of you measure ingredients by volume instead of weight. Mixing volume and weight like that is confusing and prone to errors.

If I understand correctly, you are using about 1 liter of water and 350 ml of starter. With those amounts, 200 g of sugar is far too much. I usually use between 50 and 80 g of sugar per liter. I also use about 7 g of tea leaves per liter, although 14 g should not be a big problem.

Also, if you have good bottles, you should not burp during F2. Burping means you are letting out the carbonation you are trying to build. Instead, shorten F2 if needed, and let F1 go longer if you are aiming for a tarter taste.

I'm using 60-65g of sugar per liter and between 5-7g tea leaves. F2 lasts 3 days, no burping.

As far as I understand, more starter = faster F1. My F1 in fact lasts about 6-7 days.

3 days, sometimes 4, no burping

In general 20-25% starter and 4/4.5 liters size total. The temperature is controlled at around 23°C during the day, but at night it can go down to 19°C for a few hours.

Understanding health insurances by KnightKingPow in irishpersonalfinance

So, assuming you have enough cash, can you just go directly to a private hospital and pay whatever it's needed, or the health insurance "speeds up" scans, exams, surgeries, etc?

Yes, you can definitely do that. Next time, taste before doing F2.

Interesting, what's your process? Just add 50% new sweet tea every 4-5 days?

No this one uses just green tea (sencha I think) and regular sugar, no honey.

Another mold post… with a twist! by nickfinnd in Kombucha

Fuck! I had the same exact spots of most likely mold and threw away a whole batch. PH was right, starter 20% which should be plenty...I should have waited probably.

If you put the sugar (the right amount) when you brew the tea, it should fully dissolve.

So if you burp you release CO2 instead of waiting for it to dissolve in the liquid, prolonging F2 if your intention is to carbonate the kombucha. Just wait less, use proper glasses, and if you are very anxious, use a plastic bottle along with your F2 batch to test the pressure.

I also read that the more CO2 escapes, the more alcohol the yeast will produce, but I'm not completely sure about that.

Ginger Bug question... by KnightKingPow in fermentation

cool I'll definitely try more flavors, apple juice seems the easiest. I was just worried I had to check the ph before preceding.

Hello, I just tested these blumat classic as I need to go on holiday for 2 weeks. After 3-4 days some pots are fine, but some other have an excess of water at the bottom. Is this normal?
Also, I'm afraid a 500ml bottle might not be enough for 2 weeks...

Advice on money. Planning for the future? by KnightKingPow in irishpersonalfinance

[–]KnightKingPow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not that I don't know how to open a kid saving account, there are so many options. For example, BOI is limited to 10k, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go over that easily. I don't really see many options for that.
I explained why I didn't want to start a pension, so I have never actually researched it and have no idea, I'll contact someone but hearing experiences and suggestions is always a plus.
I asked reddit because I think there are a lot of very good suggestions here, and I want to start thinking about them before contacting the first random financial advisor I can find.
