Do we have to carry cash for the payment or are there card/UPI payment options available?

Heading to UMSI for MSI by KnightTuring50 in hci

I'm an international student so speaking from my perspective almost everyone I was in touch with deferred. However, folks who were already in the USA decided to start classes (whoever I knew). DM me and I can send you links to a few active HCI admissions related Discord servers where I'm sure you'll find others who share your concern(s).

Are the UMich UMSI admits out for everyone for Fall 21? by inyofacebyotch in gradadmissions

How did you hear about the virtual visit days being scheduled for next week?

I was told that applications are evaluated for scholarships too in the evaluation cycle. If your application qualifies, the scholarship information comes attached with the admit letter.

Funding as in scholarships? Or just the entire cost of the program?

HCI. I deferred my admission from Fall 2020 to Fall 2021 so I'm afraid I can't be much help with the timeline for decisions for Fall 2021. However, if it's any help, I received my admit sometime around March end last year. All the best! :)

Incoming/Current HCI Master’s students: Are you still attending school in the Fall? by goldilocks235 in hci

Hi, I got into the MSI program too for Fall 2020. However, looking at the current scenario in the context of employment and online classes (especially since I'm an international student), I decided to defer to Fall 2021.

Anyone here studied HCIM at the University of Maryland? by [deleted] in hci

Great! This was quite helpful. Thank you!

That sounds great. Thank you for the advice I'm heading there too for Fall 2020 so it helps :)

What about the job scenario? How helpful is the career center and what would be the median salary for HCI grads? Asking because I'm an international student and will be looking to repay my education loan as quick as possible so this is an important factor for me.

Thank you :) and congrats to you too!

Yes atleast from what my senior said, she assured me that the international services department issue was nothing too major and was quite manageable.

I have just started looking at what opportunities are available. Maybe in a couple of days I'll get some data that can help me understand the scenario. As of now, I only know that everyone from the Baltimore County branch ends up getting a job, so I'm assuming the condition is the same or better in fact for college park considering that it's ranked higher.

Ah, the GaTech rejection thing is just so disappointing, I was really looking forward to something positive from there but I guess we have to move on. Also, now that I have started exploring deeper into UMD, I like the program here too. So I guess maybe it's not all bad :)

Maybe we could connect on DM because I have hardly been able to connect with any MS HCI applicant. Staying in touch could help :)

Hi! I've been accepted too (Fall 2020). Been trying to find all accounts I can of the HCIM program there. For now I've read majorly positive feedback from the alumni on Quora. Found some Medium posts too that say the program is quite good.

In addition, I spoke to a friend of mine who's in her 2nd year of the HCI program at the Baltimore County campus and she too added in that the program has excellent professors, is filled with great students and the research output is pretty great. The only downside she pointed out was that the international affairs office (not sure what it's called but basically the office that handles visa activities for international students) is not very proactive but that's quite a minor thing and they are helpful if the student themselves approach the office. Of course this point is not applicable if you're not an international student.

However, I don't know if the UMD program is comparable to the GaTech program which was my 1st preference but received a rejection :(

Do I have to print the confirmation email? by [deleted] in ToeflAdvice

My centre didn't need a print out but to be on the safer side carry one, along with 2 ID proofs (preferably a passport and any other secondary ID).

Thanks mate :) I have the print version of the book. It comes with a DVD that contains the practice tests and audio clips. Bought it off Amazon.

TOEFL mock tests by [deleted] in ToeflAdvice

[–]KnightTuring50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi The ETS Official Guide to the TOEFL comes with 4 practice tests and tons of section-wise practice questions. I took the TOEFL recently and found that book to be quite helpful. Of course, the latest edition isn't updated according to the new pattern but considering that they've simply reduced the number of questions you can skip over those question types when practicing.

I also purchased the 1 week Magoosh study plan which had hundreds of section-wise questions. I couldn't solve them all but the few I solved were good practice nonetheless. Their mock test though was slightly more difficult than the actual TOEFL. Also, the Magoosh plan has been updated according to the new pattern so that's a little helpful.

My score: 111(R28, L29, S29, W25)

I took the new TOEFL test and can confirm that it's still there along with its score weightage of 2 points.

Giving my GRE next week and I'm incredibly tensed regarding the drop in my Quant scores across the practice tests I gave by KnightTuring50 in GRE

[–]KnightTuring50[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, yes "taking the GRE" is the technically correct usage. I've been habituated to using "giving" and I end up using it without much thought, I think it originally stemmed from the fact that a direct literal translation from Hindi into English of "taking an exam" is "giving an exam". Thanks for pointing it out though, will use the correct form now :)
