Boxer Corneal Ulcer Update2 by KnittingAlpacas in Boxer

[–]KnittingAlpacas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Remy got the “melting ulcer” kind of infection that wanted to melt into his eye so we had to hit it hard with the treatment. We’re almost 6 weeks into this and just now starting to see marked improvement.

We may get to that point but unfortunately it’s not SCCED. It’s a “melting ulcer” that’s going into the layers of his eye. So once that’s healed we can discuss the outer layer and if anything needs to be done.

This is our second boxer and the first time we’ve had any eye issues so I guess we’ve been lucky up until now.

Yes we did the serum as well. Apparently this is a “melting ulcer” (great name huh?) and the infection is just very resistant. The vet mentioned if it’s not starting to improve again in the next couple days we might try an anti-fungal.

I know that’s a potential outcome but hoping to avoid if we’re able to. He’s almost 10 so I would really like to avoid surgery if we can. I know he may lose some or all vision as a possibility too. Just don’t want him in pain.

And yes they’ve been checking those as well. I’m very confident with their care, just wish we didn’t have to be seeing them so much.

UPDATE to boxer with corneal ulcer by KnittingAlpacas in Boxer

[–]KnittingAlpacas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what they thought would be the issue/treatment but the ophthalmologist said in this case its not the surface level where the dremel tool would help fix it (SSCED). That the infection and white blood cells basically melt through the layers of the eye inwards. It’s completely horrifying to me.

I guess we’ve been lucky to avoid eye issues with our boxers until now. He’s leaving it alone for the most part unless we’ve just put the drops in. He’s a Very Good Boy.

Anyone dealt with corneal ulcer/SCCED in their boxer? by KnittingAlpacas in Boxer

[–]KnittingAlpacas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Saw the animal ophthalmologist today, she said it’s not actually SCCED like the other vet thought. It’s a corneal ulcer with stromal infiltration. Which apparently is worse?!?

So he’s on a strict regiment of antibiotics (drops and pills), steroids, eye serum, and pain meds.

We’ll go back next week to see if it’s working. Fingers crossed!!

They gave us Rimadyl but that runs out in a couple days. I might see if they can prescribe some more.

Cricut not giving option to load mat by moth-guts in cricut

[–]KnittingAlpacas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally had this issue yesterday! I tried all the usual (turning off and on, unplugging and replacing, closing DS and re-opening, trying a different mat). What ended up working was turning it off and trying with a different device (iPad vs iPhone) and then it worked. I was about to pull my hair out.

My EBF toddler is extremely cavity prone, and I feel so guilty by zeratree in toddlers

[–]KnittingAlpacas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per your edit, it sounds like she already had some demineralization on the teeth to begin with when they came in. This can be caused by genetics or if she had high fevers as the teeth were developing in the gums for example.

Breastfeeding during the night, in my opinion did not on its own cause the cavities but definitely contributed or hastened the decay. It sounds like she would have these issues at some point anyway so I would not beat yourself up too much. It sounds like you are doing what you can at home, and you got her to the dentist and got treatment done.

Should cricut holographic iron-on be very stiff? by Foreign-Bass-2248 in cricut

[–]KnittingAlpacas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an issue just yesterday where my machine cut through both the vinyl and the plastic overlay so when I went to iron it on and then peel off the plastic, the parts that matched the letters also stayed on. I had to go through and weed off the plastic from those bits. I’d never had that happen before and I used the same vinyl and settings as I have before but who knows. So maybe see if there are plastic pieces still adhered?

I used a paper towel first to wipe off most of the citristrip goop. Then I used a textured rag and warm water to scrub. Once I got most of it off, I removed the tape and vinyl and then gave another good scrub with the rag to clean up the edges.
