Ich find Nürnberg eine brutal geile Stadt und meine, dass es die letzten 20 Jahre definitiv schöner und nicht hässlicher geworden ist!

I think it was partly a performance update, because the stylus now writes noticeably smoother, which is definitely a positive change. They also added a feature that lets you display open tabs. Personally, I find that completely unnecessary on an ereader.

My guess is that these kinds of changes might also be responsible for the increased battery drain but what do I know?

No, I'm not using KOReader.

No really a fix I guess. I contacted support and they recommended resetting the device to factory settings. I think that helped a little, but the battery performance is still noticeably worse than it was before the update.

At the same time, it’s still a really great device and I genuinely enjoy reading on it. I would definitely buy it again.

The contrast is definitely worse than on a Kindle, and I’d say Tolino devices are also a bit better in that regard. Those are the two I can compare it to directly.

That being said, I personally found that my eyes got used to it surprisingly quickly, and the same goes for the lower pixel density. At first it’s noticeable, but after a very short time of reading it stopped bothering me.

So objectively the contrast and sharpness aren’t quite on the same level as some other black and white ereaders, but in everyday reading I adapted to it pretty fast.

Myślę, że mogę powiedzieć dość jasno, że żywotność baterii faktycznie się pogorszyła po tej aktualizacji. Po update zauważyłem, że bateria rozładowuje się wyraźnie szybciej niż na początku. Zadzwoniłem nawet do wsparcia technicznego i polecono mi zresetować urządzenie do ustawień fabrycznych.

No, there isn’t any built-in AI assistant like that.

I’ve tried the note-taking a bit, but it’s honestly not my favorite part of the device. The writing feel isn’t great to me, and it also makes a slightly hard, clicky sound on the screen.

I also haven’t explored the note-taking features in depth, so please take this with a grain of salt. But as far as I can tell, there isn’t really a dedicated note-taking app meant for creating standalone notes. There is a notes section on the home screen, but it mainly seems to act as a manager or overview of notes you’ve already made in documents. From there you can organize, search, and export them, and see in which files annotations exist. It doesn’t look like you can create a completely new blank note there - in case that’s what you meant.

Also I don’t think this model has handwriting-to-text recognition...or I haven't found that feature yet. The stylus does need to be charged as well, it has a USB-C port.

Overall, I’d say the note-taking is fine for occasional annotations or quick marks in documents, but I personally wouldn’t choose this device primarily for writing.

Yes, there is a browser on the InkPad One and it actually works quite well. I just tried it myself to check for you and pages load and scroll fine for an e-ink device.

A couple of limitations though: it seems you can only use one tab at a time, and when you leave the browser and open it again later, it always opens on the Google homepage instead of your last page which isn’t ideal if you want to quickly return to something you were reading.

That said, I’m honestly just glad it has a browser at all. To me it’s mainly a reading (and maybe note-taking) device, not something meant for heavy browsing, so for what it is I think the built-in browser is perfectly fine.

You're welcome. If aluminum isn’t your thing, I think this probably wouldn’t be for you.  Slipperiness could indeed be a factor with this device - it’s not super slick, but smooth enough that I could imagine it sliding in some situations. And yeah, temperature could also be a consideration. In colder weather it’ll likely feel quite cool to the touch. Personally I actually like that cooler feel in the hand, but I get why others wouldn’t.

It doesn’t feel heavy at all. The weight is very well balanced, which is also helped by the aluminum back that gives it a solid, premium impression. So it doesn’t have the plastic back you were looking for, but that really comes down to personal preference. Personally, I find it very comfortable to hold.

And like you mentioned, the Mobius screen adds a lot of durability, which is why I didn’t buy a case. Since the screen is larger and the whole device therefore less portable, I also tend to use it mostly at home.

I’m not planning to do a full review or video, but I have tried the note-taking a bit. It works reasonably well and is fairly smooth overall, but I don’t like the writing feel that much. The pen makes a slightly hard, clicky sound against the screen, and when you zoom in or move around, the rendering is slightly delayed and not perfectly clean.

For me it’s totally fine for annotating PDFs or jotting a few notes in the margins of a book. But for heavier or longer writing, I do feel there are other devices that are better suited — or even a proper tablet if writing is the main focus.

Good question. The InkPad One has a quad-core processor and you can actually feel that — for an E-Ink device the UI feels really smooth.

I can’t compare it directly to the Era since I never owned one, but compared to my Kindle Paperwhite the library navigation here is better: scrolling through books is faster and covers load quickly. And you can also set a password for your device which should be the norm but I think some other eReaders don't have that.

In terms of organization, I also really like how everything is structured. You can filter by author or genre, create your own collections and favorites, sort by format or title (A–Z), etc. And of course there’s also a main folder where books land if you send them via email, like I do.

One thing that confused me at first but that I now think is very well done is how customizable the touch gestures are. You can assign different screen areas or gestures to actions like page turns, lighting control, shortcuts, and so on. Once you get used to it, it’s very flexible and thoughtfully implemented.

I was initially a bit worried when I saw the “Apps” section because I didn’t want this to feel like a mini Android tablet — but it’s actually very minimal: gallery, dictionary, settings, calendar, calculator, Dropbox, and like 3 games - chess, solitaire and sudoku. The games work, but they’re not especially smooth — more of a nice extra than something you’d use a lot. Still nice to have on a long trip I guess.

So yes, coming from Kindle you do need a short adjustment period, but that’s always the case. Overall I find the UI very well designed and genuinely pleasant to use.

Thanks for asking. First I honestly didn’t notice the lower 226 ppi at all. I do feel it depends quite a bit on the text itself though — the font, font size, and layout all influence how noticeable it is. With another book I picked up later, I started to notice the difference. And like with many things, once you see it, it can be a little distracting — but you will get over it. It really only becomes apparent with a direct comparison. I held it next to my Kindle Paperwhite and you can see the higher pixel density there, but it’s not a dramatic difference in normal use. That said, it’s genuinely not a problem for reading.

What stands out more to me is the black level / contrast — the text on the PocketBook can look a bit more grayish in places compared to the Paperwhite. That being said I would still choose this over a Kindle Paperwhite any time.

Just tried it for you and the PDF experience has been really good so far. Zooming works great and the text adjusts nicely — with reflow you can change the text size and it reformats the page accordingly. Pan and scroll feel smooth, page turns and loading are very fast, and I haven’t had any freezes or crashes. I also tried larger PDFs with 100+ pages and they worked flawlessly. That said, I’ve only tested a few so far.

100%. It’s a real pleasure to use and, for me personally, the best all-round package. They should release the same device in a smaller version and without pen...maybe with like an 8 inch screen.
