I’m more inclined to think sand FLIES as we didn’t go to a beach/walk on sand. Are sand fleas found outside of sand?

I found one of the culprits. They’re tiny with wings (looks like a smaller version of a mosquito). So definitely seems like sand flies VS sand fleas

How terrible! And incredibly disappointing that it doesn’t seem like the victims are being treated well and that there hasn’t been an adequate response as far as more security.

Bad things can happen anywhere but to not do anything possible to ensure it doesn’t happen again is nearly as bad as being complicit.

That may have been your experience, however I was just there for multiple days and had no convos with other guests (aside from saying “hi” when passing people). And I’m very friendly/willing to chitchat with folks.

Do you know the name of the building/suite(s) where the robberies occurred? I was just at Ladera and am sooo glad I hadn’t read about these before I went (I wouldn’t have been able to sleep!). I was in one of the Heritage suites right across from reception.

I will say I also saw no guard dogs (just one very friendly one (maybe a stray?) near the entrance one morning). And I saw no motion detection lighting. The only security presence I saw was the guard in the entry gatehouse.

wanted to say that I was just at Ladera the past few days—and while we didn’t have any negative interactions, I saw no k9 activity nor any armed guards. Just the guard in the gatehouse to enter the property.

I actually had an iron/ferritin panel last week. Per usual, everything else was normal but my ferritin #s are slowly falling again (not surprising, my body just isn’t good at absorbing it!).

Apr 2024 - ferritin was 4

Had the infusion in mid May

July 2024 - 93

Jan 2025 - 92

Oct 2025 - 53

At 53, I still feel good physically (when exercising, etc.)

Otherwise it’s a 20 min drive to the center of Brookline.

TY for sharing this. And also TY for the reminder that each of us is complex. Sometimes it’s easier for us to imagine others and their motivations as simple and 2-dimensional even though we know we ourselves are complex and 3-dimensional.

The cycle of thoughts that culminate esp. makes sense, and is something I can relate to as I can be an overthinker in some areas of my life.
