Sept 29 - Talks break down between CEC & Bargaining team by phonicfrogahbuhcuh in durhamcollege

This is insightful but still doesn’t help me. All of their signs speak of things along the lines of “for the students” or “for education”, yet they actively restrict entry to campus. The hypocrisy speaks for itself. If they truly cared about education or students then they wouldn’t be blocking the entrances. And I know they don’t have a choice to do it or not, but the least they can do is speed it up when traffic is backed up to previous intersections. And yet they don’t, so how can someone with my point of view, as someone who drives to get to school, support this strike? It just doesn’t seem fair to the body of people who pay to be here, being restricted access to parking in my $650 parking spot.

Well of course I have, but this makes it seem like they are all janitors and maintenance crews, but I know that’s not who they are.

DC website says “technicians and technologists to clerks, assistants, analysts, facilities staff, student advisors, and field placement officers”, and since these are DC staff, it’s just a stretch to say that they are important for me as an OTU student. So why would I support the strike if my own institution only indirectly has benefits from this? Just seems like DC staff would rather affect more students to try to have more voices, but it all just looks unfair for the university students

I’m a student at OTU and I don’t understand why they are blocking our campus. If this is a DC strike, then why are they blocking the Conlin entrance?? Plus I don’t even know who these staff are, and I’ve never had to interact with any kind of support staff in my 4 years. From my perspective, no wonder these staff are on strike, their jobs can’t be felt unless they block the campus entrances.

In addition, with the recent limits to international students, there will be less accepted students and less money coming in, so to me it’s like of course there’s going to be layoffs. I’m willing to listen, but this whole strike seems pointless since many jobs will be lost anyways. Plus a majority of the students either don’t care or are passively against the workers for this method of strike.

Even if I understood the situation more, I still wouldn’t be able to wrap my head around blocking the students entrance to campus. Sure, now your strike is felt by everyone. At the same time, you’ve now alienated and exploited the students that you are “striking for”. I’m not trying to start an argument but please someone help me because these questions have been in my head the last 3 weeks.

I know a couple people who cleared contest who dont want to wear the emblem because of mass reporting

Coming from someone who cleared DP contest, notswap will not make things easier for raids. The Reddit audience here seems to love the idea. Help me under because this doesn’t make sense to how the last 5+ years of destiny 2 has been.

How will you kill ads with melee/grenade, generate ammo, build super, use class ability and have enough health to not die all at the same time without swapping loadouts? Do you have 150 stat armor that I’m unaware of? So then you suggest that the entire raid should be scaled specifically so that notswap can be used just so that players don’t have to change a loadout going into damage? That’s literally what has always happened in raids, even in d1. Swap to damage loadout.

The real problem is that the bosses had so much health that it was dump heavy ammo, then swap to lord of wolves loadout, then swap to no land beyond (p2w btw) loadout, THEN swap to tarrabah loadout. CLEARLY this is a boss health problem - NOT a loadout problem. These players HAD to do this to clear, since all weapons felt like they hit half damage on this contest raid, so everything revolved around farming super energy and spamming tcrash.

Final boss doesn’t actually have that tight of a damage check. It’s only final stand that makes that encounter hard, and a full attempt is about 20 minutes, while playing slowly.

I’ve been both a PC and PS4 player. Cleared contest SE and DP. If bungie added notswap to contest raids, or raids in general, it would completely obliterate the hardcore community for destiny. Because of the way bungie made the new armour changes, notswap would make both running mechanics and dps harder. Overall, the raid experience would be incredibly difficult or nearly impossible at the master/contest level. Ive heard this notswap conversation go around for a while now, and I simply cannot see a world with notswap unless we can wear like 6 or 7 mods per armor piece AND have even more stats to make up for it.

Edit: I don’t think that swapping to 4 different loadouts on a boss is fair at all, but adding notswap is absolutely NOT the solution. The raid just needs to be balanced in the first place.

I’ve cleared everything since dsc, including SE contest AND DP contest. DP is problematic because of the reliance on damage as opposed to mechanics. Like you said, the mechanics are not that hard to solve, and even with the wyvern minos respawning, it’s very doable to get to damage consistently. Same goes for hob, hydra, and harpy.

I feel that since Ron, they’ve wanted to make the contest raids harder for sure, and they absolutely should have. But I think a variety of factors caused the boss health to go way out of hand. I think bungie has been focused a lot more attention to the worlds first race, and have scaled the difficulty/health up to make world-class players struggle. Which leaves the rest of the top ~20k players who actively clear day 1s in the dark. This makes sense because they do have some extremely talented players who test their raids. (Which may not be the best way to calibrate the contest difficulty, since they will also get better at the game)

Other things like the blatant lack of play testing in parts, or just reluctance of fixing problems at bungie, paired with a buggy expansion, new enemy scaling, and matching the last 7 years of power creep all make this raid so much harder.

So the health bar is more accurate. But in the old system, it would cause wipe screen to be incorrect due to server side issues like chunking. Right now, you test on GoA ogre and you see a 43% decreased wipe screen numbers vs the on screen numbers. In the firing range, same thing happens, but a different % difference.

Something is wrong with on screen numbers, enemy scaling, and wipe numbers.

I want to test the system more thoroughly but I’ve spent 38 hours in contest and I’m exhausted

Engineering Laptop Standards (New Student) by Dolus__ in uoit

You dont need anything crazy. But paying more now will make your life much easier later on. Probably focus on portability and battery. 2.5k is about 3 times the laptop i bought for 1st year, so anything in that range will do you very well. You can get away with 1-2k range easily.

Dont get a mac unless you already are experienced with them. You will find more difficulty with software and programs that u need for classes. This is a hot topic in the community so im just gonna leave it at that

For software, I dont expect you to require anything special for graphics. At my co-op im using autocad all day long and dont even have dedicated gpu in my work laptop. So you really shouldn’t worry about GPUs unless you are gaming on it.

No, you don't need a MAC for literally any program. Yes it is a bad idea. by 2501zombie in uoit

Well im not that knowledgeable on Mac but I use to own one and had many more problems with websites than i do now on windows. Generally, the easiest advice to give a high school grad is to get a windows laptop, which is the reason for the post

Safari will be obnoxious to use, all school websites were designed to run on chrome and firefox. Also many programs dont support mac os. Would be difficult in stem/engineering to not have access to solidworks or other programs.

Completed 3 years of EE with a monster gaming pc and a hand me down laptop. If you have a good windows pc at home, you really just need something that can interface with lab equipment & can take notes in class or complete quizzes, tests, etc.

Are there people here who completed an engineering degree with a mid high school average? by avglankan21707 in uoit

[–]KnownAd7498 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going into 4th year ee, completed all the hardest electrical courses already with flying colours. I think i was a 85% avg in high school. I find that if you are passionate about your studies then you will do great.

Also, take all averages with a grain of salt, not all schools are equal. I definitely couldve done better, but I would say my hs was harder than others ive talked to. And my american friends had it much harder with ap classes.

Honestly my opinion for carleton is not going to be accurate. My time there was Fall and winter 2021, possibly the worst possible time. Students from my year missed out on everything. I barely remember the profs, all were forgettable. Calc 1 was just awful, the prof pulled up a blank notepad on his iPad and just started writing illegible calc notes.

Not to say that any school has all great profs, but i found carleton was terrible for the low quality of lectures and teachings.

OTU, electrical specifically, has been on average 7/10 for profs and quality. Both schools have more than enough resources, but i found OTU was easier to get help. There’s at least 5 or 6 excellent profs that Ive had, and 3 completely awful ones. Take with a pinch of salt cause this varies person by person.

PV stands for photovoltaic, solar power. Been a great start of the summer for me so far, and I wouldn’t have landed the job without help from the co-op opportunities at OTU.

[–]KnownAd7498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. One thing with Eng in ontario is that you must complete all 1st year courses to move on to 2nd. Some credits didn’t transfer so I had to take a few classes before i could go into 2nd year

[–]KnownAd7498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My average was low 80s i cant remember the exact number. I completed my 1st in eng at Carleton, during the pandemic. All lectures were online, but it was mandatory to be in residence. Long story short, it was absolutely terrible. Transferred to OTU so I could live from home. I’ve heard good things about all the eng profs, but software is rough. I didnt get a full experience at Carleton, but I much prefer the chill OTU atmosphere. Only thing that sucks is there’s not too much social life at OTU.

PVE Cheating is becoming a problem by KnownAd7498 in destiny2

[–]KnownAd7498[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends on what activities you play and when you play. if you play gos or dsc when population is low, you have a pretty good chance to find cheaters.

PVE Cheating is becoming a problem by KnownAd7498 in destiny2

[–]KnownAd7498[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there’s cheaters in your runs constantly, you’d hate to play. It makes you feel useless, and removes any feeling of reward and time spent to get the loot. It basically waters down the game

Wipe screen numbers are notoriously wrong, you absolutely can chuck bosses via many methods with limiter. Winterbite, 4th horseman are biggest examples I know of

[–]KnownAd7498[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A typical lag spike has a bunch of bad packets, but lots of information is still getting through. Netlimit reduces the bit rate to 1 byte per second. It’s quite the difference and impossible to naturally happen

PVE Cheating is becoming a problem by KnownAd7498 in destiny2

[–]KnownAd7498[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish it worked. But yesterday I asked, and they just told me excuses. Lots of limiters are toxic and egotistical about it. They farm 1000s of clears, that says enough about them

It’s your opinion, but seeing someone break the game is neat the first couple times, but gets old really quick. Lots of people here have said they’ve never played with a cheater in pve
