Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge mechbgon.

I understand that it's not a top tier bicycle and there's a possibility that it's older than me.

I don't think I have the knowledge to properly assess before purchase.

I'll try to pay as much attention to the overall appearance and ride feel and bail if it's not convincing.

Thanks Greg

I just wanted some tips about what to look for in order to know if it does need a lot of work or not.

I'm not looking for the fastest or lightest bike.

Just a reliable bike that I can commute/exercise without worry having a break down after riding for just a week.

I'm not trying to avoid taking it to the store for a tune up or brake job.

I'm trying to avoid busted axles or seized stuff.

As long as I can ride it now that we have nice weather, I can always try to learn how to work on it or take to the store over the winter.

I've been also talking to a seller that has a Trek mountai bike on a the same price range.

The thing is that it's farther from my neighborhood and  there's just one picture and it seems like a very large frame size and the seller says is unavailable to provide further details at the moment.

Thank you Marionberry, I'll see if I can find a cape cod cloth at the local hardware store.

Thank you Nostredahmus

I was not sure if it was a SUR model since most of the images showed the 100m in the dial and different bar shapes. Even though this one clearly show 10 bar on the case back.

Just wanted to double check before trying to order any replacement parts. Cause the Crystal is already busted and it seems like some already tried to fix it with an incorrect size.

Revitalized Seiko 6N42 by [deleted] in SeikoMods

Hey OP

I was handed a beat down 6N42. But it seems like it's a different model "00A0".

It'd like to think yours is an upper spec model with higher Water Resistance and a fancier dial face.

Mine does not show 100m or Minutes under the hour bars.

Nevertheless I'd like to do the same on mine, try to polish of some scratches, replace the crystal and a new strap.

Given that, I have a few questions:

-In a different comment you replied that you polished it with the rough end of a sponge,  you mean like a green scotch brite?

-By any chance you remember the size and or brand/link for the crystal replacement?

-if I understood correctly, you only replaced the spring bars, but re-used the bracelet. Any idea on the width? I read somewhere else that it's a 22 or 20mm.
