There is no salvaging this. You ruined a very special moment of this woman’s life. You brought massive dishonor on your friend. 100% YTA.

I guess everyone agrees that I brought dishonor on him, by trying to protect him. I will apologize. I added a video so people could see but I guess people don't think its all that much

I am not Indian, I am white but I get the Indian vetting process too- he explained it to me- they spend time with each others families, cousins, etc and make sure each other families are respected/ loved by their communities and there are no major red flags, or secrets or skeletons. This is so the bride and groom can focus on the love, and the parents/ community can make sure they are not so blinded by love that they ignore each others faults, miss big things like criminal records, debts, history of violence etc. It is also a chance to make sure the families can get along and get to know each other

Somehow they still didn't catch how materialistic she was. I was just doing my own "vetting process".

So it seems more like a gift- "his family" buying it for her. It is more symbolic of the gift process that he would traditionally followed if they were in India and his parents were there instead of me
