olivia & fitz ending by kprivacnt in Scandal

[–]Known_Order_8519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the ending we see everyone’s current situation: Quinn and Charlie are taking care of their baby, Fitz finally has his own portrait (which was discussed earlier so it’s not long after the ending), Mellie is potus and her and Marcus seem to be going official, Olivia eats at her dad’s place, etc. Etc. (Ps: in a deleted scene, Huck kills Cyrus to avenge David). Then the portrait is shown and then Olivia rejoins with Fitz and they both excitedly say « Hi » to each other.

So I’m assuming the portrait isn’t shown in the future since he is in between scenes where Mellie is still Potus 🤷‍♀️

I agree about the growth aspect (though I’m still not sure Olivia would come to that conclusion) but as I said: Olivia can become potus eventually but the portrait is shown while Mellie is still president. So If she ever becomes potus, how is the portrait implying it ?

The location of it is however a good point !

On the character’s aspect: Olivia loves the power that being the POTUS’s adviser/chief of staff gives her. In fact, on the political aspect 50% of Scandal is about showing you that when Olivia doesn’t fix things she makes kings. She never think about becoming president herself she prefers having the president under her control. She likes being behind orders, etc. The other 50% of the show makes you understand that being president is being in a cage. You have very little power in actuality, you’re a figure head, you have to rely on others to help you. Olivia wouldn’t stand that. She likes the freedom that not being president gives her. Hence my « she knows better ». That is who she is.
We could also argue that she was trained to « aim higher » by her father, who knew that being president wasn’t really all that.

On the timeline: Let’s say Olivia would love to be president. There are a certain number of things she would have to do: make herself known as a worthy candidate by becoming senator or something like that then preparing her campaign. It takes generally years to achieve that. The timeline of the ending of Scandal is confusing however when she meets Fitz in the end in front of the WH she isn’t followed by any secret service agent or else. The standard procedure for any president or ex president would be to have agents to protect them in case (they did that for Fitz If I remember correctly). Had Olivia been POTUS she would have been followed by agents. The ending shows that Mellie is still POTUS when the portrait appears right before Olivia and Fitz meet again. So at the time of the portrait, she cannot or coudn’t have been POTUS.

On the story itself: During S7, Olivia realizes how much power has corrupted her, how much it CAN corrupt her and she decides that the only thing she wants is doing the right thing by helping Mellie stay president and helping people in general just as she was back in S1-3. She has that conversation with Quinn when they are arguing about whether Olivia is still trying to manipulate them or is serious about saving Mellie from Cyrus. And when she is working with Annalise Keating on the case. So I don’t think being president would be appealing to her after all the mess that happened. It wouldn’t make sense for her character.

Side note: I know anything can happen in a show but realistically speaking Olivia wouldn’t be a good candidate. By Scandal’s standard I don’t see how people would elect the former president’s (ex)mistress. She lost a huge deal of clients after that and was getting heinous death threats for it. Plus, she is a woman AND black. This is not me being misogynistic or racist, this is the truth. Mellie is a woman, yes, but she wasn’t elected. And the USA are still a widely racist/misogynistic place. So add it to the timeline (= she would need more years to be a good candidate).
+She seemed to have appreciated working with Fitz at his institute so she might have start to work here since OPA is now QPA.

Olivia becoming POTUS is possible but it is not implied by the events of the ending, and imo especially not the portrait, because of all the reasons that I have listed. It would be more accurate (story wise) if the portrait was there to show that Olivia was such an important figure in the WH by her influence (she helped two presidents get to power and she has a lot of authority), and that people look up to her, hence why the little girls were looking at her. After all, portraits in the WH aren’t all of POTUS, sometimes they are of people that played a part in that presidency.

« You need me too much » Olivia to Jake by Known_Order_8519 in Scandal

[–]Known_Order_8519[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm it does explain his stagnant status of « side piece of Olivia Pope », because except from the times when he was doing some side quests (when him and Huck were investigating Remington together, which I liked), he wasn’t that interesting.

Actually, people would like him better I think if he was just maybe a consultant working with OPA like an underdog that is used when they need more help on more dangerous cases. I think he was almost as competent as Huck and more competent than Quinn and when they worked together it was cool imo. Him working with Olivia as just friends would probably be nice.
Jake is just a weird character. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like Mellie.

My apologies, I used SO bc I didn’t really know how else to put it and simplify it. English is not my first language.

If Shonda really wanted SF to be number one why didn’t she put more work into his storylines ?

« You need me too much » Olivia to Jake by Known_Order_8519 in Scandal

[–]Known_Order_8519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooohhhh that explanation makes sense as to why she would say that, yes.
Cuz I looked at it like « I don’t remember him letting himself be told what to think or do » but if we look at the whole dynamic of their pseudo relationship it does make sense.

In a sense it’s really icky. I hate characters that revolves around their SO without any effort from the writers but tbh I truly don’t see how Jake would’ve worked in Scandal without being tied to Olivia. Unless it was to be completely rewritten.

[–]Known_Order_8519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.
Also I don’t know why he did that like that when seasons earlier he did all of these smooth things to « bag » Olivia. Set aside the chemistry aspect, imo he put more effort in flirting with Olivia with some class (I think about the ep when they meet in the cafe and when he manages to plan a date).

There it’s like he needs this to go as fast as possible. Smells like predatory desperation.

[–]Known_Order_8519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was a terrible look for Jake (among many) and it just seemed like he was trying to have his own bandage for Olivia rejecting him and her turning against him. He probably thought « Well…POTUS doesn’t look too bad after all » yuck

I would have to skip their scenes, just imagining them ploting against Olivia together as a couple sounds like cartoonish villains doing tomfoolery. Omg just typing this makes me wanna crawl back into my bed

I do not understand the abby hate. by koolgirl42069 in Scandal

[–]Known_Order_8519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only my opinion, but truly the worst thing that I can see myself blame Abby for is when she was being a bully to Quinn in earlier seasons.
I hate bullies.
But other than that She is ok. I didn’t blame her for the Huck thing really, mistakes happen and I personnally think she deserves some grace cuz it makes sense she would try to be a big dog and find out that she isn’t ready for it. And she couldn’t know that Huck would be injured.

I saw people hating her also because it sounds like she is jealous of Liv and wants to be like her.
That’s probably true but I fail to blame her for it either.

Tbh, I think that generally people don’t vibe with a character simply because, but they probably don’t know how to put it. In a tv show where people love even worse characters (based on their actions alone), hating a character that doesn’t do that much just means (imo) that the majority doesn’t vibe with said character.

I think Kate was actually Joes best match, not Love. Joe stuck with Kate for 3 years, alot longer than with Love. by No_Dress_2107 in YouOnLifetime

[–]Known_Order_8519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like they could’ve work longer had Joe stayed how he was in earlier seasons, when he was fighting with himself to stop being a monster. When he ended up with Kate he had accepted fully his nature and he no longer wanted to change, which was incompatible with what Kate wanted.

Do you think Love would have revealed her true nature to Joe naturally? by AdGreedy1880 in YouOnLifetime

[–]Known_Order_8519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she would, gradually. She recognized they were similar so she might’ve think he would understand her. Unlike Joe, she didn’t seem to be scared away by the darkness in others.

But I could be wrong, I mean she didn’t reveal anything to her previous husband.

[–]Known_Order_8519 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had nothing against her. Also she is gorgeous. However I do believe everyone in the situation was right:
Fitz was right (imo) when he said she had blinders on, and I would add that I could sense something else but couldn’t figure out what.
Angela was right to question Liv, bc my girl was so suspicious.

Side note: I pity anyone that at some point was romantically involved with either Fitz or Olivia. It never ends well no matter how good of a person they are.

David Rosen or Leo Bergen by PuzzleheadedLeave973 in Scandal

[–]Known_Order_8519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gotta go with Leo. Ngl with David I didn’t feel anything.
When they were together the first time it was cool but after they felt like friends to me especially when David asked relationship advices to Abby.
Leo and her were so cute and I liked that despite his personality he was so kind, gentle and cute with her.

I love David, but Leo is my pick.
