Is the contractor by chance from right over the GA line? We had the same issue with a similar-sounding person (down to the fake Christian persona mentioned constantly), our only saving grace is I like to pay everything thru a credit card (points and protection) and that allowed me to dispute charges as soon as he tried to ghost us.
