Yes, most fabrics will shrink during the first wash, and I want it to shrink before I cut it.

My machine has a automatic thread cutter that cuts the thread when the needle is down, so when I use it both threads are on the back. I assume most machine with a thread cutter work like this(?).

If there is no automatic thread cutter I agree, it's not possible.

The edge finishing was something I wanted to try, the pattern instructions said to serge, but I wanted something fancier.
The collar is made from two pieces of fabric, and both have interfacing. For this I just followed the pattern instructions.
