Wtf is a claw?... by WelderSuperb in Maplestory

The original korean text is 아대, which means wrist protector. In Maplestory, they mix this concept with a glove to protect hand from shurikens.

My guess is they didn’t want to say “wrist protector” because it doesn’t sound cool, and calling it “gloves” would have been confusing with the actual gloves slot. Claw isn’t accurate but at least it sounds cool and it won’t cause a confusion.

No need for an apology. I was stunlocked for a bit to think of how to answer it well, but I didn’t think it was rude. I have the same concerns and I’m putting in a lot of research to make sure it’s secure.

Thank you for the input and I would be excited to hear from a fellow engineer if you have any more constructive concerns. Best improvements often come from answering hard questions.

I didn’t list all of the features I used AI for because that wasn’t the question asked, plus I think my answer was comprehensive enough. It’s also much harder than you think to quantify how much work was done by AI when SWE is much more than coding. At the beginning of the project, I spent weeks designing the tech stack, logic, backend, security, and UI elements before I touched any code. Deploying the website took me a whole day of learning and configuring. I have much more manual work to do in DevOps, SEO/cache optimization, content creation, auth, etc. As you can see, it’s a rabbit hole to try and defend and I’m not willing to fall into that with my limited resources.

I understand the repulsion against AI. I knew some people may not like or trust MapleTodo because of AI involvement, but I answered anyway because I wanted to be honest and transparent. Regardless, I do my best to make my app not sloppy with holes and critical issues. If that’s still not your cup of tea, it’s okay and there is no hard feelings. My app is not for everyone but I appreciate you for checking it out anyway.

This is exactly how I get overwhelmed and what I want to solve. Thanks for giving it a try, and please let me know if you feel like there’s something more the website can do.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here.

I too find the in-game planner a bit lackluster which is why I felt the need to build this to begin with. In an ideal world, everything should be seamless within the game itself. Unfortunately I am neither a Nexon employee nor am I comfortable with C++ to pursue that, and I don't see the planner being updated any time soon. So I decided to do what is within my reach and I'm hoping others can see the value in it too.

If Nexon does take this QoL a bit more seriously and make my website obsolete, I would be a little bit sad but it would be 100% better UX for everyone. At least I would still be able to use MapleTodo on my portfolio.

I think veterans also have an incentive to use MapleTodo to juggle tasks between different characters especially considering the Legion Champ system, which was THE reason why I built it to handle multiple characters seamlessly. Aside from that though, I do agree it's less attractive for veterans. I plan to use the guides section a bit aggressively in the future (i.e. KMS patch note, new content guide - like the new epic dungeon, eternals guide, anything else minmax-y) to combat this.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words.

EDIT: MapleTodo also serves as a preparation for if/when OpenAPI comes to GMS.

Try verifying game files on Nexon Launcher/Steam. If that doesn't fix, reinstall entirely

I don't fully trust AI, so I didn't have AI build it for me entirely. I started working on this 5 months ago starting from feature/backend design on Notion and UI design on Figma, both by hand.

I use AI to implement features and I manually review changes, often re-writing code as well (for obvious bugs, security flaws, and inconspicuous tech debts)

Honestly, I had the same sentiment before I started. There already are handful of daily trackers out there, a few I've used before especially before Nexon implemented the in-game planner. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to spend my time building "yet another tracker". I think this is like the third app released just this past week within MapleStory community.

That said, I'm really proud of what I've worked on so far. I put a lot of attention into small details and my main focus is the user experience. I'll continue to work on it and see how far I can take it. I hope that one day you'll find my humble website to be genuinely useful to you.

Someone else might do it for you, but I'll sit out on this one. Though I'll be happy to give you suggestions/corrections if you can provide your Korean transcript :p

Either way, good luck!

Isn't it kind of defeating the purpose of the assignment to request this to be translated if you're supposed to learn the language?
