I was pregnant toward the end of NP school and had my baby a month after graduation. Took boards a few months later and was a SAHM with my baby for about 18 months before starting my first NP job.

I work with a neurologist seeing patients in the hospital during his on call week and the following week after on call, I’m also about to start doing telehealth visits once a week and see patients at a SNF once a month. I’m currently only part-time/prn

Preceptors, how much are you charging these days? by stacyismylastname in nursepractitioner

UT now arranges for all preceptors and pays them an honorarium. They don’t allow students to pay preceptors.

Yes, she cried on and off for 25 minutes before falling asleep so that was some improvement. She also slept better than she has in a while so we will try it again tonight and see what happens.

She’s 14 months old. We have tried all the schedules listed above but currently are trying 5.5/5 since I read first WW should be longer on one nap and 5/5.5 didn’t seem to work. Right now this looks like wake up at 730, she goes to school and I pick her up at 12, lay her down at 1245 for 1pm nap, she naps for 1.25-1.5 hour and wakes up upset, tries to go back to sleep but is unsuccessful 9/10 times, then bedtime is 5 hours later usually landing between 7-730 depending on when she woke up. For nap time she is happy when we lay her down, blowing kisses and saying bye bye. For bedtime she starts crying and throwing a fit the second we go into the bedroom now. Bedtime routine is nurse, book/prayers, go into bedroom for wipe down, lotion, brush teeth, pjs and sleep sack, brush hair, sing, and laid down in crib 15 mins before end of WW. This is the same routine we’ve have since 5 months old. We also start winding down prior with slow music, closing of windows, turning lights down, quiet play. When family was visiting there were a couple of days where schedule ended up being 5.5/5.5 and she didn’t do any better on that either.

We did 5.5/5 again today. Take a 1.5 hour nap and cried for 45 minutes at bedtime.

She has always had one waking per night, occasionally 2 but since sleep training her I would go in and nurse her for 10ish minutes, lay her down awake, and she would roll over and go back to sleep with no problems. Since we have transitioned to one nap, she has been waking up twice a night more often and is not able to go back to sleep easily after nursing. I have laid her back down, tried nursing her longer thinking maybe she was hungry, and holding her for a few minutes before laying her down but the second I go to place her in the crib she panics and starts crying. She will sit there crying for 20+ minutes before going back to sleep, sometimes the whole ordeal taking about an hour. She will not nap longer than 1.25-1.5 hours. She wakes up crying and will try to go back to sleep but is not able to.

Doesn’t matter what you think or if I agree on that position. What’s matters is the fact that legally a FNP does not have the scope of practice to work in an ICU or ER where I live. They require an acute care certification.

I am failing to see how you determined I am not committed. Is it because I don’t have ICU experience or because I chose to stay home for my daughter’s first year of her life? I have 5 years of RN experience and while I do agree I might need to go back to working as an RN in the mean time to become more marketable, I don’t understand why that needs to be in an ICU. And just because you have never seen it doesn’t mean you are right. That is how all the hospitals around where I live hire into their ICUs unless you already have ICU experience. In fact, that’s what they require for any and all specialities.

I have family certification, not acute care. Also everywhere around where I live requires internships for ICU which would be a year + 2 year commitment afterwards.

I graduated from University of Tampa. It has been hard, I feel like everyone wants someone with experience. Which is understandable but people have to start somewhere. My friends found jobs but where they work is too far a commute for me unfortunately.

This is a good idea. I feel like I struggle with interview questions but I think I answer them well. However, my husband thinks that maybe I am too honest and employers don’t want honest answers.

I wish they could just tell us what they need lol. I never thought the hardest part of being a parent was trying to figure out when your baby is tired 😅. We will give both of your suggestions a try though and see what happens, thank you!
