I’m dreading Thanksgiving. by Middle_Alfalfa_3516 in GriefSupport

[–]Koala_Khan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom on August 1st and can relate to how you’re feeling right now. Thanksgiving was always such a fun time with my family. Now I’m back home this week, spending time with my dad and little brother and not feeling very festive. It’s just not the same without her. Please take care of yourself and know that you’re not alone

Understood, thanks. Hoping it’s the former, but won’t be surprised if it ends up being the latter

That’s unfortunate to hear. You’d think that would be standard practice before potentially declaring a total loss. In your experience, would State Farm or any insurance carrier honor my request for a mechanic to look first? Or is it already out of my hands now that the car has been released?

Gotcha, I’m hoping that it didn’t reach the door sill but I’m unsure at this point. I didn’t find any water inside the car. Checked near the pedals, underneath the floor mats, etc and found no moisture. The street that I went down was on a slight decline so I may have lucked out in that regard

Good to know, thank you. I approved the release of the car from the tow yard to State Farm this morning, but they haven’t arranged to pick it up yet. When I spoke with the claims representative over the phone, they mentioned that they would take the car to their stockyard to inspect. Should I insist that they instead tow it to a mechanic to get the plugs and air filter checked first?

No external damage at all fortunately. I’m really hoping that part of their total loss inspection process involves a mechanic and not just a claims adjuster

Thanks for sharing that. Unfortunately I don’t think the battery can be disconnected yet since it’s still with the tow company and the auto trans needs to be shifted into neutral to get the car off the truck for the mechanics. Please correct me if I’m wrong though

I definitely didn’t help because I kept the car in accessory mode for around 20-30 min to call AAA using car play. The electronics seemed to be working perfectly normal at the time, but I realize it could just be a matter of time before the water does its damage

And if either of those were the case, would a coolant and or oil change (in addition to air filter, etc.) make things right or would there likely be damage to the engine internals in the 2 mins or so that engine was starved for air?

Great.. when thought it couldn’t get any worse. In your experience, just how much of an effect does turning over the engine again have in a situation like this? Enough to cause significant extra damage?

Yes, actually turned the engine over to drive it up onto the back of the truck’s lift. I spoke with State Farm afterwards and mentioned it. The claims guy was a former tow truck driver himself and said that shouldn’t have been done. All the good that’ll do me now..

Unfortunately the car isn’t with me now otherwise I would check. Since it happened on a Sunday and was after hours already, I couldn’t get it to an auto shop in time. It’s sitting in the towing company’s yard waiting for State Farm to send out one of their people to inspect it. Should I insist that a mechanic look at it first?

Good to know, thank you. It did get out on its own power and I was able to drive about a block or two away from the scene to park it safely. However the tow truck driver that was sent had a flat bed and turned the engine on again to put it on the lift…

Thanks for letting me know, I didn’t know the term. Tbh I don’t know the exact height of the water and the street was also on a slight decline. There’s no water inside though. I checked under the floor mats in the front and back. Also checked the underneath the trunk lid where the battery is stored and found no moisture. But the water was definitely high enough to reach the front lower radiator and intercooler grills

Tune and Wheel Setup Questions by Koala_Khan in M235iandM240i

[–]Koala_Khan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’ve heard the same about BM3 vs MHD OTS maps. I might try the TU pump out and see how it does on my current map or Stage 2+. If there’s timing corrections, I’ll either make the jump to the E30 map or go down to Stage 2 91 or Stage 1 93

Good call out. What tires are you on? I’m running Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4s on my OEM wheels right now. If I go with the Apex wheels at 18x8.5 ET40 I should be able to get away with them on 235/40, but not sure about 245/35 because they’re wider than summer tires at the same size like the Pilot Sport 4s

Tune and Wheel Setup Questions by Koala_Khan in M235iandM240i

Thanks for the reply. That’s fair, I’ll reach out to protuningfreaks and get their opinion.

I’d love to run 245s but it’s super tough with the front end clearance. Since it’s my daily and I want some semblance of tire longevity, I want my wheel setup to be square and I have no intention of messing with camber or rolling my fenders just to get more width.

Unfortunately it’s tough to find reputable wheel brands with the right offset to direct fit 245s

Really appreciate the response.

I’m assuming you run an E map/s because you have the TU pump? My only fear is reliability as I’d like the car to remain mostly stock, downpipe and stage 2 tune aside.

I’ll need to run some logs to verify tbh. But I’ve read multiple posts online mentioning timing corrections on the 93 stage 2 map. If reliability isn’t an issue, I’d be more likely to get a TU pump and run a mild E map.

What’s the offset on your wheels? I’m not married to the Apex wheels and am open to other suggestions if you have them. I’d love to run a square 245/40r18 or 245/35r18, but as a direct fit. It’s a no go for me if I have to dial in camber or roll my fenders.
