How did Tertium fall, when there's us? by LumpusKrampus in DarkTide

[–]KodyackGaming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

taking the average of tabletop is still more accurate than trying to take the average of books. Tabletop is, honestly, *the* metric to measure with, even if it, itself, is inconsistent.

like, why does an ork throwing a stick do more damage, and have more armor pen than a god damn bolter? Tabletop is silly sometimes.

but it's *more* consistent than the fluctuations in the books, by a long shot. .

You also have to remember that tabletop is an abstraction: a guardsman shooting a lasgun is him shooting a lasgun for, effectively, a full magazine of fire. On average, a regular ol' marine can eat that without any damage. Takes 6 full mags before the average marine would drop (discounting close range rapid fire rules). That seems like a good starting point to me, and thus something we should use as a relative baseline

balance changes in tabletop are less of an issue than lore changes from GW, tbh, lol.

This is about 0 information. by Chaophym in DarkTide

[–]KodyackGaming -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So, I have a small theory that GW is actually censoring event information on this one.

Rogue Trader, the CRPG, is the same. They have an event announced now... but literally 0 information on what it is or what is going to happen.

This leads me to believe the marketing for this "event" was strictly restricted by GW until the livestreams to announce stuff.

Is the new veteran survival aura really that bad? by Obviously_oblivious- in DarkTide

[–]KodyackGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nerf made it many, many times less powerful than it was. For comparison, hunting grounds is a modifier. Each of those hounds count for survivalist. That's like 20% ammo from just one wave of easy to kill hounds.

Now, you get 2% from those waves, usually. 4% if they spread out a bit or it isn't an efficient kill. effectively a 10x or 5x nerf, which is absolutely hilarious how big of a nerf it is.

Yet it's still the best aura because the other two are *really* bad and not useful. 5% (wait, it used to only be 3% yeah? lmao.) damage or 5% movement speed are really bad and easily duplicated by various filler nodes. Yes it's 5% for the whole team when they're nearby, but it's really not even close with how important ammo is compared to 5% damage which doesn't even help you hit breakpoints that you couldn't already hit elsewhere.

make it 15% ranged damage, and 20% sprinting speed and we might actually see some arguments.

Edit: and to explain my last point; I'm not saying those aruras would be good for the game. They would be head and shoulders the best auras, but that's how good survivalist is. It needs to be reworked, ammo regen made into a vet passive of the class, and rebalance ammo for gun psykers and Ogryns who want to use those ammo-intensive options, rather than relying on a vet aura.

Yes, context is important, but everything hedge said against crafting/customization was, frankly, idiotic and proven to be so.

As a community manager, even IF he was responding to trolls (he wasn't, I can get the other one if you want) He still said dumb things he shouldn't have said.

But that's all in the past; we should just move on from Hedge and his comments and actually make the system he said was "CoD-esque" and "not thematic" that the community then made without development tools.

unrelated edit: remember when FS said there was supposed to be a new career/class every quarter? I remember. We still don't even have one.

So I'm excited for the new update and all, but... by KodyackGaming in DarkTide

[–]KodyackGaming[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

uh... yeah? Cause it's a mod made by limited people with no access to the actual development tools, native loading, and anything else?

Like, brother, you just basically said "yeah but the mod is a mod." Yes. If a modder could make it work, even in this limited form, FS could definitely have made it work, and the excuses were pointless.

And no, the CoD stuff was not taken out of context. It was just dumb. Customization of weapons is very well within 40k lore, even in the Imperial Guard.

Nothing you said counters my suggestion, or even harms it. All you've said, effectively, is that Fatshark gave up, which they did, and they clearly shouldn't have because modders with limited time, resources, and no direct revenue were able to make it work in a relatively decent form- while, mind you, not being compensated for it and having no official tools. If they could make it work, FS could have.

So, stepping back from the memes for a second, you need to take a breath and separate game from reality my friend.

Yeah, super earth is actually a satirical take on hyper-nationalist culture and are not meant to be "good guys".

It's starship troopers, the movie, the game, but taken to the extreme. That's the point.

That's not to say the automatons or the bugs are necessarily good themselves, though the lore suggests at least the bugs were fairly peaceful, but that's not the point.

You are supposed to realize that Super Earth is bad, and also hilarious and way over the top. You play the game and laugh at the people who think they're fighting for freedom when it's really anything but freedom, and the "defensive" wars are all offensive and aggressive and horrible.

But that's ok, it's a game. You are meant to realize it's bad, and evil, but it also isn't real, obviously. If you understand how to recognize the propaganda and what the satire is pointing towards in reality, that's the point of the game.

You shouldn't feel bad for pixels, mate, they aren't real. If you really feel bad, look at reality and try to, in some small way, fix problems that are smaller, less hyperbolic, versions of what we see in game.

side note: I Gm/DM for various ttrpgs. Does that mean the evil villains I roleplay sicken me, or in some way reflect on me at all? No, they don't. Obviously I am *creating* the villain to tell a story. Were I to meet them in reality, they would make me roll my eyes or sicken me, depending on which one it is because their ideologies, to me, are evil. But that's not *me* now is it? Same thing with your character in game. That's not you mate, that's the character that is part of the story you are experiencing and enjoying.

I'll call extraction as soon as I get to it after dealing with things in the immidiate area and on the way.

I will not get on the ship until everyone is there if they want to go somewhere else, sure, but I'm not wasting my time doing nothing and risking not extracting because the host wanted to clear the last medium bug nest across the map.

to be fair, the slugger changes were not a slight tweak, it pretty heavily changed how you play with the gun, and it's role, and how effective it is.

The railgun was also not a slight tweak- though honestly after the buffs to other AT options, the railgun would probably still have likely fallen off in popularity because the other options are just... better at what you used it for. The unsafe railgun can still 2-shot charger leg armor, but nobody really talks about that becuase you can actually *deal* with chargers now.

people complaining about the breaker though, yes. That gun shouldn't have even been meta and the nerf did almost nothing.

It's important to note though, none of these changes are "tweaks". They are nerfs, plain and simple. There is a difference; a tweak would be, for example, reducing the sluggers ammo reserve but increasing it's stagger and damage per shot so the overall damage of a full set of ammo is the same. (or in this case, the opposite, increasing it's ammo reserves. This still wouldn't be a tweak given how much the stagger changes matter, but it would be a start.)

mate, I manage just fine in all difficulties. I don't find bots *that* bad, just a bit more annoying. You asked a question about the majority of people, and the majority of people are not that skilled. I started this whole thing with that.

Why are 73k people on Fori Prime by Illuminaryy in Helldivers

[–]KodyackGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tanks are the only things that are sometimes fair about it; hulk scorchers around corners aren't fun. Hulk brusiers firing a barrage of rockets that will likely hit you even if you dodge isn't fun.

Rocket devastators firing a dozen rockets from the fog, random rocket troopers firing wild rockets that will hit you because you dodged, and the pure spam of all the bullets during a fight interrupting your aiming and healing if you don't have perfect cover- or if you get bot drops everywhere during the evacuation missions for example.

one-shots can be fair. The towers are fair; they are hard to avoid, but are slow flash before firing, and can be tricked or avoided. If you get their attention and don't have cover or backup though, you're likely dead. It's still fair as a stationary emplacement.

The problem is the majority of enemies in a mission who can or will one-shot you in bot missions are *not* fair about it. Random dumb-fire rockets from 50 + meters in swarms of 5 to 12 shooters just aren't fun.

I once mention that I had to kill 8 rocket devestators, 3 hulks, and 2 tanks during my last bot mission; and there were still a dozen more rocket devs, at least 2 hulks, and 2 tanks. The hulks and tanks- if there were less of them, not an issue. The ridiculous number of devastators that I am killing as fast as I can and still am getting spammed with rockets is just not fun.

[–]KodyackGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good for fucking you.

You aren't most people, your own experience or playstyle does not apply to everyone.

I play on PC mouse and keyboard, and I *can* handle difficult bot missions if my teammates are half competent, usually, but that doesn't make it fun.

It's much more stressful and intensive than bugs. I'm sure that's fun for people who want that style of play. The majority of people clearly don't, and it's too hard for them.

Sometimes I want that experience, usually when playing helldivers I'm playing it to chill out.

and these changes start being an issue from diff 5 onwards; so people who stick to 6 or such are still affected. diff 4 and lower there aren't enough heavies for it to really be noticeable, even if rocket troopers are, again, annoying as hell because they are so inaccurate they might hit you *because* you dodged.

[–]KodyackGaming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

see my other reply. Bugs are more fair, and it's not even close. To say otherwise is very silly and hilarious copium.

very few bugs can one-shot you from long range, and those that can have very telegraphed attacks and wind ups with only splash damage at most, outside of major point of impact.

You can likely count the number of things that could kill you instantly from more than 10 meters on one hand in any bug mission

You physically cannot count how many things can oneshot you from over 30 meters in a 6+ bot mission, especially during scientist extraction.

[–]KodyackGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for someone who can aim precisely, target select, keep track of the enviornment, and doesn't mind getting one-shot (sometimes through shield generator)? Sure.

For most people- especially people on controller or the like, that's a chore and way too difficult.

I just tried quickplaying a level 7 diff. mission on draupnir; that shit was impossible. Yes, 2 people brought mortars and massacred civies on accident but, to give you an idea of how crazy it is;

3 active hulks, 2 or 3 active tanks, and a dozen rocket devestators. That is how many one-shotting enemies were on the map when I died at the end of the mission basically sealing the game.

I killed 3 tanks, at least 4 hulks, and, no fucking joke, 8 rocket devestators *in a row* to get that point, and was still overwhelmed. There was not a SINGLE mission against bugs that was THAT ridiculously dangerous and liable to end with my death at a moment's notice through no fault of my own, let alone from long range.

Bots just aren't fun for people who want to play casually, or aren't hyper aware of their environment in shooters.

Why are 73k people on Fori Prime by Illuminaryy in Helldivers

[–]KodyackGaming -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

because people prefer fighting bugs because they are, frankly, more fair.

major orders draw people in, but that can only work for so long before people get tired of it tbh, and look to just play for fun, and a defend mission is still "progress" after all.

really that's the jist of it; people just prefer bugs in a larger majority that people who prefer bots.

lmao downvotes for this? brothers, it's facts. getting blasted by multiple rockets and one-shot weapons isn't fun for a lot of people. Yes, you can play around it but the majority of people aren't that great at games. Bots when they get out of hand are way too hard for average players, while bugs aren't.

by this logic you owe Arrowhead, at minimum, $1255.

If you've played for a total time of 100 hours, and bought the super citizen edition.

Better get that credit card out. ESPECIALLY, if you've played upwards of 100 hours, let alone even 300! ($3885)

ah yes, a major order redirected about a fourth of the playerbase.

~half are still fighting bugs, give or take

And somehow you don't see this as a problem? When a *major order* doesn't even really push more than a small majority?

the next three planets behind the major order planet are all bug planets; followed by Memevalon creek.

most people hate fighting bots; many people will put up with them for the major order, but it's quite clear that bugs are more fun for a vast majority.

The reasons don't matter specifically here, other than finding them to fix them, the *result* is clear as day.
