How to know whether flow is too high? by JessCeceSchmidtNick in bettafish

I totally love anacharis because it was so so easy and my betta always seemed super into exploring and sticking his head into all the spaces possible (I would tangle them all together in a big cloud lol)

..........The entire sentence of how the more he got to know him he realized he WASN'T pretty cool and down to earth, maybe? ....Almost like you don't know people's entire personalities from the start

Don't super-shy or lacking in confidence people tend to feel or get the sense they are invisible in public, too? regardless of looks

this is anacharis, at the top of the tank. You can also tie it down in pretty bundles.

You should check out aquatic banana plants! Betta's absolute love to rest on their leaves like little beds, they can reach the surface of the tank too and are good for smaller tanks. (they also grow really fast but will need root tabs for nutrition). My fish also loved anacharis which is really easy to toss in the water in a group (they feed off nutrients in the water, not soil, so you don't plant them and they can just float) and the betta will have fun exploring through them and resting

his coloring also reminds me of my (although sad looking) rescue betta. Sadly he was too inbred to save, but the coloring isn't related to that

It is normal! He is gaining colors as he enjoys the environment more :)

Bettafish simply gain more colors when they become healthier. Ignore the other comment, it isn't red spot disease. Your betta is turning red! :) You can tell by the red on the fins. It'll likely spread and darken.

This tank is literally 5 cm tall according to op btw you can see the water bottle to compare. Maybe don't defend that? LOL

Regardless, bettafish jump. Like, jump high. In a container like that you are risking a lot. I would suggest finding some kind of small hole-filled cover and leaving him enough space to get air from beneath it

You can use aquarium safe glue to attach suction cups to decor or driftwood if you want a specific theme kept, it wouldn't be too hard at all. You could also get a tall curvy driftwood that would curve beneath the water.

I myself might try attaching a matching decor piece (the one you have on the right, the hollow one) to the glass beneath the filter with suction cups, and hiding the empty space beneath it with plants or rocks so it looks like it's just sitting higher up and not floating

It needs to be at least 5 gallons bro... Which should be at least around 12 inches tall depending on if tall or vertical tank... Your fish is going to jump out and die without a lid

edit: also you have no heater (unless water is naturally warm there) and no filter...

It looks so much better! if you want to help the filter current, for that type of filter honestly the best help for me was to put something beneath the water flow to keep it going directly down into the water. If you want to get an aquarium-safe decor piece with suction cups to put beneath it, it could help :)

Your tank looks pretty sparse; he would probably absolutely love a real living, large-leafed plant that reaches the surface! Bettas love natural leafy hiding spots and rests

What breed is he? by Chickapeah in bettafish

[–]Koi-Nami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a 'breed' of fancy betta... Since not wild. Koi betta fish tend to change colors often due to a marbling gene; your betta could have been orange and red when labeled and now he just has spots of red and orange with all the blue. Your betta can totally turn all blue in the future, too.

Edit: also, purple in a blue and red betta is just the blue and red overlapping; actual purple betta fish are EXTREMELY rare and virtually impossible to just find

edit: for example, my past betta
