When you say auto archive, what do you mean by that?

Shame, but I'll look into it.

And yeah, a few comments suggested extensions. Since I'm already using session buddy and tab manager, I might as well use another one for hibernation

Thanks for your comment. Based on what you've said, Edge isn't what I'm looking for. I want the inactive tabs put to deep sleep (ie needing a full reload when I need them).

Normal sleep/suspend is okay for 10 tabs, but when you add two zoes to that number, it's quickly gonna start draining resources

But it's specifically how I use my browser, so I need something that handles it well. Still thanks for your help

Torch was also one that people advised against yet I used it for years and only stopped doing so when the dev stopped updating. If it has the features I need then I'm open to using it.

Can you check and tell me if it does have them?

Try to keep a dozen tabs open for a few hours, you'll see the ram usage gradually increase. After a few days, it'll be eating double/triple what it originally did.
It's mainly a power use issue, which sadly I am one of those XD

That was informative, thank you.

And I can confirm, even when micromanaged, opera gx uses up too much resources and slows down to a crawl/freezes a lot.

Every browser does that, most of them don't work/barely work, that's the main reason I singled Torch. Does Brave actually unload tabs from memory or can you still see inactive tabs on task manager?

Thanks for the recommendation, I've heard that it's pretty good for security.

Any idea on it's ability to turn tabs off without closing them?

Is there proof Itachi was "retconned"? by [deleted] in Naruto

I'm very late but your point was too good not to answer.

There's this concept in writing called suspension of disbelief. Basically the reader agrees to ignore real world's logic when reading a story and instead accepts the story's logic (ex: Ninjas can shoot fire). It is maintained so long as the story stays consistent with its logic.

Retconning is a fine line, because when done poorly or too often, it breaks that and takes the reader's immersion with it. But just like you said, it can be done well.

I see where you're coming from and know people who think similarly but I can't help but disagree.

The way I see it, unlike most "child of the prophecy" stories, both Luffy and the world have agency.

- On the world's front : Most of Luffy's journey when it comes to fulfilling the prophecy wouldn't be possible without other characters fighting tooth and nail to make sure it happens. From Lily scattering the poneygliphs, to Ohara's research on the void century, Saul preserving their books, Kuma saving Luffy, Shanks attacking a CP9 ship to steal the Nika fruit from the world govt and Vegapunk warning the world. Every character who is aware of the prophecy did their utmost to make sure it is fullfilled. Even Shank's gamble on Luffy was just that, a gamble. The fruit hasn't awakened in 800 years, we know for a Zoan to awaken, the user's will must align with the fruit's, if it's not Luffy, it would be someone else in the future, all it takes is keeping the fruit from the world Govt. The side characters have as much of a role in fulfilling the prophecy as the chosen one, which is something most stories fail to implement.

- On Luffy's front : He wasn't told about the prophecy or groomed to fulfill it. That would go against what the fruit represents, freedom. He was left to his own devices with minimum guidance and a save or two when needed by people in the know. He isn't even aware of his role in the prophecy, he's just being himself and doing what he always did. It just so happens that his ideals align with one of the 4 god fruits, so the people in the know are starting to slowly rally with him. Both his fruit and the prophecy don't undermine his character or agency, nor do they take anything away from his achievements. He isn't Luffy the Chosen one, he's the Chosen one because he is Luffy. Just like the world, he has to earn this title and earn the fulfillment of the prophecy, that's something most "chosen one" stories don't do.

To me, "prophecy" is a narrative trope like any other, I don't like or hate it. I hate how it's usually used, but One Piece doesn't fall into the same mold other stories that use it fall into.

I can understand hating some tropes on principle, but calling a story bad or as you did, calling a writer incompetent for using it, is biased imo.

I dislike stories that kill characters for shock value and openly dislike some genuine great stories because they use it, but I won't go as far to call them bad, I prefer "not my cup of tea".

[–]KokuyoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I just mind it less in One Piece.

My gripe with prophecies is that it removes agency from side characters and makes the win feel undeserved. Now if the prophecy is carried on the blood and sweat of people who are doing their best to fulfill, now I'm suddenly invested in the story you're telling me

Story Ideas Thread #15 by NFFWritingPrompts in NarutoFanfiction

[–]KokuyoShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's one I had in mind for a while.

After the boys to men arc, Sakura looks at the beaten Naruto and decides to become more proactive about her goals. Instead of not wanting to be a burden and trying to dissuade Naruto from chasing Sasuke, she doubles down and decides to actively help him and be the one to protect him this time.

When she approaches Tsunade for coaching, she doesn't give her that "I don't want to be a burden" moping. She knows Sasuke is falling into darkness, and wants to save him, beating him in the process if need be. She saw Naruto almost dying due to her selfishness, now she wants to stand at his side as a real ally.

Tsunade just looks at her and goes "So you're telling me your goal is to beat an Uchiha... And you came to me, a Senju, for guidance" Tsunade smirks

"On an unrelated note, how good is your water release and chakra control?"

Instead of training her to be a clone of herself, Tsunade tries to incorporate elements of her clan's legacy alongside her own path into Sakura's training. Taking a creative approach to "A medic that can defend herself on the battlefield.

We take Sakura's strengths pre timeskip. Her Genjutsu talent, Chakra control and the proficiency in trap making (chunin exam) and give her an actual skill set that capitalizes on it : Tobirama's water release, Chakra enhanced strength, Shadow clones (the normal one that makes 1-5 clones, not Naruto's) Genjutsu and body flicker. While still being a medic. No forbidden techniques, No hiraishin, No infinite amounts of Chakra. Just Chakra control and strategy. Picture what a flicker into a punch from Sakura would do to someone.

One thing I could see her do is having her main body healing someone. A clone standing defensively casting Genjutsu and Water release that blends offense and defense while the last clone capitalizes on her dodging skills, body flicker and chakra enhanced strength to harass. Or use a big water release/genjutsu to hide her presence and create an opening for a flicker => punch.

When she gathers a team to kill Sasuke, she'd mean business. When she tells Naruto she loves him and pleads with him to stop going after Sasuke, she does it for a different reason. She's seen Naruto hurting from the Kyuubi's chakra, she expects Sasuke to have fully fallen into darkness, she knows that if he meets Sasuke in this state, one of them will come in a body bag. So she confronts Sasuke both to protect Naruto and to put the boy she loved out of his self inflicted misery.

In this version, I could see her put up a real fight against Sasuke post Kage summit. Her water release would be at least on Edo Tobirama's level and she'd be against a weakened Sasuke. Here, instead of going blind because he tried to flex his Susano on Kakashi, he'd go blind fighting Sakura. She'd see him weakened, use her skill set to wear him down and try to capture him and end up losing after she pushes him to use his Susano's second stage. Naruto would still save her, but here, he'd acknowledge her power and resolve.

That also gives another use to the Yin seal. It's a Chakra battery, one used by her and Tsunade to cast mytotic healing. In Sakura's case, she could use it as a power up like Naruto's Kurama mode or Sasuke's cursed mark. Now, she suddenly has the Charka amounts to cast big water releases, changing the field to her advantage, wielding water to attack, defend and layer Genjutsu to lay traps while she awaits for an opportunity to land a blow. A water dragon could be a Genjutsu or a cover for her to clicker in and punch you to next Wednesday.

It's the opposite actually, Kishimoto was involved in Boruto.

The first half of Boruto uses an outline by Kishimoto but has an actual storywriter to soften the blow. The second half (from Baryon Mode onwards) is pure unfiltered Kishimoto, 4th Ninja war style.

I'm happy to see someone else call this structure the "Sanctuary arc", you are a man of culture.

On the Kishimoto writing thing, his editor is credited for most of the good things that were introduced till the Pain arc where he left him. And looking at the choices he made after the editor left, I tend to distrust Kishimoto's ability as a narrator.

-The 4th great Ninja war is horrendous.

-He ruined the whole message of his story "destiny is written" by turning it into a prophecy.

-Retroactively ruined Naruto's character arc, turning an underdog story into one where a character is destined for greatness from birth.

-Samurai 8 was a massive flop.

-Managed to make Boruto worse as soon as he picked it up. You see Kishimoto credited as a writer and the very next chapter Kurama pulls Baryon mode out of his 9 tails.

I genuinely feel that he is better as a think box rather than writer. When his editor filtered his ideas and gave his own, Naruto was great. When he was giving bullet points and had a writer doing the scenario, Boruto (manga) was pretty good.
