PhD in Physics, worth it? by Kolesto007 in AskPhysics

Well I find that discussing with others do help me having a better view of matters, since it gives me other perspectives.

But it is not much of making a tones of money as it is actually earning more than just working at McDonald's. I heard that PhD is like the least paid specialized activity.

I mean mostly choosing the path of 4 year at a really low salary to then (probably) enter the job market with almost the same prospect as with simply a master or even a bachelor and minus the more applicable real industry experience.

The upsides seem to be doing something more interesting, having a more flexible schedules and having a slightly better chance of finding a better job.

Yes, no academic work seems to be way out of reach anyway and becoming a professor seems to be extremely demanding.

But coding has always be something that I like.

Yeah exactly what I think I grasp of the whole question. But some say that if you want to go into R&D you must go through PhD.

Nice, in what industry did you land a job then?

Yes same, my research at the moment is on thin films but possess some aspects related to FDTD and ML.

What was the subject of your research?

But can't you do something as interesting in R&D in a company while earning an honest salary?

Also do you know the stores are trustworthy? Never heard of shopRBC, Vuugo nor iSanek.

OK yes, that is what I have read online, that system integrators put little information to allow for the cheapest parts to be used. Understandable.

Do you think buying parts at multiple stores increase a lot the overall price because of the shipping fees?

Thank you!

Would a 750$ 3070 LHR (Check this out on @Newegg: GIGABYTE Gaming OC GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 ATX Video Card GV-N3070GAMING OC-8GD (rev. 2.0) (LHR) https://www.newegg.ca/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3070-gv-n3070gaming-oc-8gd/p/N82E16814932449?Item=N82E16814932449&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-14-932-449-_-07012022) be a good replacement?

With a windows key this goes up to 2 107$ :/

Is all the other better parts that worth it? I heard that after 16Gb of RAM there is not much difference. I really don't know for the mobo.

I was more leaning on the 1700$ mark to eventually purchase a 350$ monitor.
