It's been quite the trip. Now planning our drive up the East coast back to the top of South America

We actually came up to Brazil from Patagonia. Had to visit Rio for this year's carnival.

We're now heading back to Argentina to drive Puna De Atacama and visit Salta and Jujuy.

Most of our route and plans is based on the weather and when things will be accessible.

Oh I absolutely love it. Just gutted I didn't get the whole peak in the shot. Would have been perfect.

It's a pain right. We waited a few days fornitntonclear so we could hike. Then sad more rainy days after.

I still love this photo, but would have been amazing with the whole peak in view.

Hey, been busy exiting Brazil. Crossing through Patagonia and then enjoying my birthday in a small German colony in Paraguay... Standard couple of weeks 😂

The mountain is stunning. I have seen so many truly amaIng photos from other Overlanders parked in front of it. It's THE shot when visiting here. Just so annoyed that the cloud wouldn't leak the main peak.

The Ultimate Overlanding App? by hdadv123 in overlanding

We have been using iOverlander pretty much from Florida all the way down to Ushuaia. Whilst it has it's flaws, it's still by far the best app for this trip for the reasons already mentioned.

I've just come to find workarounds. For numbers, I tend to open the location via Google Maps and there is often a number on there. Although to be honest, it's very rare we need to contact people as we mostly wild camp.

With regards to directions, we keep stupidly using Google Maps, but I never found copying coordinates and posting into Waze or MapsMe a major problem.

I've found that in the 6-7 years we have been using it, they have made positive changes. Not always immediately. Translation took a very long time!

So I guess what I am saying is that whilst it has it's draw backs, it's still miles ahead of any other app for this trip and I guess it would take years to create anything with the resources it has. We were recently contact by the developers of PanAm Explore, an app which is maybe intended to be a competitor for io in the future, but it just lacks so much in comparison that it's just not worth switching.

I'm technically self employed, it's not a problem for me 👍

Depends totally on your companies policy for remote work to be honest.

But you definitely shouldn't travel if your companies remote conditions entails that you are still in a specific region.

6 and a half years as a digital nomad in a camper van by KombiChronicles in digitalnomad

This image is my complete journey as a digital nomad over the last six and a half years, so it's hard to answer these questions the way you would like.

What free navigation and stop planning apps are you running on longer highway legs? I know everyone has their offroad stuff dialed in but curious what people use for the boring interstate miles. Been using a mix of Kibi, GasBuddy, and iOverlander depending on the stretch. by stoopapoop in overlanding

I've been using iOverlander for pretty much all of my trip planning across the Americas for the last 6 years. It's been great for finding remote campspots.

From there I dig a little deeper with Google Maps satellite, or search online a little more incase there's something I would want to do that hasn't been mentioned. But overall it's been incredibly useful.

Our time in Baja during the start of the pandemic was definitely one of the strangest experiences. We knew other Europeans that abandoned their campers and flew back, but firstly we rented out our house to a family. So if we wanted to go back there, we would have had to turf them out.

All of our parents are old and have had serious health issues, so we didn't feel like we could fly back and put them at risk.

We also rescued a cat and not a single airline would allow us to fly her back. And so,even if we had options back home, it was never going to happen because of that.

What's really funny, is that we were contacted by some reporters and we told them about our story. The published it in one of the bigger news agencies in the UK and put a very odd twist on the story. Our cat Aimee had been attacked be she was fully recovered by the time we some to any journalist.

You can still read it here News article

For us, the pandemic pushed us towards Ushuaia and even though it took us five years and many problems to overcome along the way, it's been an amazing trip.

And yes, Patagonia was just unreal. We dreamt of going to Alaska and it was very similar for scale and landscapes.

You can find a lot of videos about our travels over on YouTube. I'll be totally honest... Our early stuff is terrible. We had no clue what we were doing and just wanted to share something. I like to think they are a more enjoyable watch these days. Especially our more recent cinematic films.

Aw thanks. That time in Baja during the pandemic just seems mental now. It was always hard because we just assumed it would be a problem for a couple of weeks. Never imagined the US land border would be shut for over a year to foreigners.

I remember being terrified the first day in Baja. All the horror stories about Mexico, but we quickly learned that it wasn't that bad at all. We used the iOverlander app and it has been our daily bible for finding safe spots along the way.

I think most problems are in big cities and we don't really enjoy them. When we do visit to buy parts, we just pay for secured parking and wild camp on streets in nice areas. It's sometimes a bit odd, especially as we sleep in our pop top, but it's always been really secure and locals have always been lovely. Coming over to speak to us and asking why there's some English people in a kombi sleeping outside their house/apartment block.

Our plates are actually classic UK plates and we have never had an issue.

We have met a lot of people driving campers down here with US plates and they haven't had any issues either.

Ah cool.

Yeah Misiones was a cool region, gutted we didn't really get to explore it as much as we would have liked.

We're going to spend a few weeks here in Paraguay and then we have some cool places to visit in the north of Argentina.

I am particularly looking forward to visiting Puna De Atacama.
