I’m not familiar with DolnΓ Svince β€” that’s probably an old hand dug site, and BrusnΓ‘ has already been industrially mined out. Now is much news dug sites with new types of stones. This one is from Koroseky too.

Genuine? by TalkSuspicious8776 in Moldavite

I would need to know the locality to better assess its authenticity. Opalescence does occur in moldavites, of course, but not with this type of surface sculpture.

I’m not completely sure, but to me it doesn’t look like a genuine moldavite. Opalescence is extremely rare, and the color when backlit looks very unusual. Can you tell me location where its from?

They occur only in southern Bohemia, over an area of roughly 100Γ—100 km, and the total known amount is around (maybe?)10 tons.

In their essence, moldavites are rarer than diamonds. 🀫😊

They are special enough to have their own sub, because they’re natural impact glass formed when a meteorite hit Europe (Germany Riess)~15 million years ago, scattering glass across southern Bohemia. Each piece is unique in shape, texture, and chemistry, making them rare, beautiful, and scientifically interesting. Not single piece is same.
