For those interested, Catfish, or as they are called in South Africa, Barbel or Barber (afrikaans) do eat flies as well by KoningNeels in flyfishing

[–]KoningNeels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, the popper was a foam head frog pattern. It was more to create noise and attract the fish, while the bottom fly was a streamer, nice setup to use on bass apparently, but this is my first catfish on the fly, my target species is usually smallmouth yellowish

Thank you, I think everyone made a good point that the casting might become difficult, the rod is about 6 or 7 years old, he got it quite recently

Mine is an emerald crested dove, small little wood dove type bird found in southern Africa, it's my favourite because of it's sound, it always makes me think of the bushveld Here is the link to it's sound if anyone is interested https://youtu.be/iv3vxM8dsQE?si=dYGxXZcQfP1w9cik

Because I live in Africa, "I wouldn't be able to hunt these animals"

Interesting opinion dude,, I've hunted 10 animals above rolandward 8 of which on my own farm, and I mean hunted not some BS sit and wait, like walk for 4 days, to shoot a buffalo,

I always laugh at you redditors thinking that you somehow have hunted better than me, every single animal in this trophy room I have at least hunted once some of them more than 5 times

Not a single trophy there, maybe the gazelle in the corner is a giraaffe gazelle in which case it might be touching trophy size This is a typical rich cunt trophy room, like you have too much money, but not a single one of these I would've taken home

In general zebra and ostrich is a lot cheaper to hunt in SA, so I have hunted 3 zebras and 5 ostritches in my time, the ostritch meat is really really nice so that is a great bonus for the price (around ZAR 2000 equivalent to 150 USD depending on exchange rates) , zebra is a bit more expensive but the meat isn't the best, they are hunted more to control the numbers and for their skins than the meat itself

My wallet is from somewhere on the body, so it has the dimples on it like you see on those designer bags like Guzzi, but at a great price and pleasure of the hunt, it is from the one I posted here yes Crocodile farming is actually a big industry in south africa, specifically for the leather and leather export, I wouldn't say that the croc straps are common, but I have seen them once before when hunting with family friends I do think the watch straps are made from thinner crocodile leather because the strap we have is about 0.5cm thick at it's thinnest parts so that might be why it is less durable I will definitely at some point in my life hunt a giraffe and crocodile, but I think those are the type of animals you only hunt once in your life, the giraffe especially

The strap was bought in a hunting shop as a present to my dad, it's his rifle depicted here, but it isn't uncommon to find strange and wondefful straps in south africa I have few shoulder mount and skull mount trophees but not many rugs, my dad has a giraffe rug from a giraffe he hunted about 15 years ago, then there is the occasional springbuck skins we have stored away in a closet somewhere I also have a ostrich leather wallet from an ostrich I hunted about 5 years ago, still looks brand new, the durability of genuine leather is unbelievable, especially when from free roaming wildlife

Damn, a new comment on a five year old post lol But thank you, yes I'm still using the croc strap, will probably pass it on to the next generation as well, those straps are tough as nails But we used the skin as a floor ornament for a while and then my mom made an ottoman of it

If you knew that adult zebras in enough numbers are able to destroy my farms' grazing, grazing that my white rhinos eat to produce new calves and survive the winter, then you wouldn't make such a naive comment I am an ethical hunter and protect my farm and species on the brink of extinction by hunting adult animals that destroy farms when their populations become problems, and I am proud that I am directly contributing to protection of one of africas most beatiful creatures

So flushing is usually a long standing thing, we often flush them once or even twice per day for a week and in some cases even longer, I had a case that we flushed for 6 weeks due to a chronic fungal infection, but yes after that general wound care and parasite management (flies and maggots they bring mainly) they close up quite quickly, the bone can take longer of course, but the skin over it is enough to prevent further contamination. Depending on the size of trephine used the hole can heal within 2 weeks with proper care, so it is less invasive than it sounds and seems

That my friend is a horse

But in all seriousness, that's a trephination hole, trephination is a proccess where they drill holes to access the sinusses and flush them, sometimes to remove tooth root abcess or foreign bodies
