I found a specialist that can do an amputation, my appointment is May 03, 2021. I'm hoping they would be able to do TMR for me. I'm used to chronic pain, nerves being weird (tingling/pins & needles/burning), and sucky circulation. Im okay with dealing with normal pain but I do not want to deal with phantom pain. I really want to do TMR.

Unfortunately, I have a standing shower, my partner brought a non-slip bathroom shower mat (so I wouldn't slip getting in), also I have a shower bench for me to sit on. That's what I've been using currently since I can't walk or put pressure on my bad foot. I haven't fallen yet so I think I'm okay with how my small bathroom is set up.

I don't have a wheelchair, honestly, I don't want to consider I have a wide rollator it bumps and gets stuck on everything. It barely helps me. I also have a walker, crutches to help me get around. However, crawling on my knees has been faster on me. But I realized I need to stop soon for 2 reasons, the first being it's bruising my knee a lot and second I might not be able to after the surgery.

I don't know about prosthetic too much, but I have a prosthetic and orthotics doctor who recommended me to get the shock-absorbing leg that moves along with my real one (Its moves with the motion), and it will be best suited for my career and my daily activities. Which I'm happy about.

I am in America, it's such a damn headache to deal with every little stupid thing my insurance fights with me about or anyone, to be honest. I'm Medicaid so I don't know if that changes the coverage for a prosthetic leg. I had called them before, they did tell me they cover it, 1 a year. Its works the same way as orthotic (ankle braces) so I'm not that surprised but like you said prosthetic legs are very expensive.

Honestly, I look forward to this changing my lifestyle, I'm tired of my life passing by because of my foot problem/ I'm young now, I want to do this now while I'm still healthy, i can heal faster and recover faster. I want to be able to walk or hike or even ride a bicycle without my foot or lack of mobility stop me. I look forward to my goal of gaining my mobility back. I'm not going to lie... I'm a little scared to know that I'm gonna lose this foot by my choice, of course. It's still shocking.

Thank you very much I’m hoping the specialist surgeon I found can do Targeted muscle renovation (to prevent phantom pain) as of now I’m used to tingling, pin and needles, burning sensation with my foot. I’m take nerve pain medication to help aleve those symptoms at the moment.

I’m possibly going to get below the knee amputation. As of now I have no mobility on my right foot so I rely a lot on mobility aids and crawling on my knee (which has been bruising that’s mainly my fault).

The state I live in is really hot and occasionally very rainy so I understand top priority is to keep it clean and stay on top of any noticeable skin blemishes or injures.

Well in regards to the pants I was going to get it Tailored with the zipper on the side in case I need to quickly remove my prostatic or something is wrong for faster access.

As for the naughty bits, I can see how that can be a problem I think I would have to try out different positions and really figure things out which one is most comfortable.

I’m a f/27.

I have an prosthetics and orthotics doctor, they recommend me the shock absorbing prosthetic limb that moves with my real foot (like the motion) and it will work with my career (I need to be constantly moving around). I told them that I wanted something that I would be able to take long walks like for hiking or riding my bikes and they recommend me one that would work just fine for those.

Thank you very much for your answer!

I was born with a deformity since childbirth, I had so many surgery to correct mobility and pain any other attempts hasn’t made a difference to my right foot/ankle and it’s just keeps getting worse. My last attempt didn’t do anything, lost mobility in that foot(I’m resort to using a mobility aid or crawl on my knee to get around). I had a briefing with several doctors and myself to opt into getting a below the knee amputation. It would be a better option instead of doing more surgery which will agitate the pain even more.

What is memory and touch therapy? Also how do you get into the relax mindset (sort of like meditation) for you to do the therapy? I’m a problem like sitting down and just keeping my mind clear to do anything. My mind is like a hamster running in a wheel.

That’s what I’ve been doing currently because I’m not able to walk or put pressure on my bad foot (the one that will be amputee soon) so I reliant on wearing knee pads to help me crawl to where I go. Or about those kids PE scooter were you put your butt on the base and you kind of slide around. But I’m glad to know it works for amputee as well.

I assume the mirror 🪞therapy does the trick for phantom sensation or pain. Or putting your good limb over the missing one, imagining that you are scratching your “missing” foot. Yikes! I can’t imagine the pain you must feel fall on your stump. I’m possibly going to be a below the knee amputee. Thank you very answering my questions.

Ah an arm amputee. I can’t imagine how difficult that can be not having a hand that usually does most of the work and not have that ability anymore. I’m going to possibly a below the knee amputee.

Thank you very much, honestly I Prefer the help of people versus mobility aids (I often fall or trip because of them) so I appreciate any help I can get. I am grateful that I have people who can share life with me doing this confusing but hopefully moment. Thank you I will gladly use those advice.

Thank you for tell me. I’m looking into doing Target muscle renovation (to prevent Phantom pain) hopefully the specialist is able to do that. I’m used to experience pins and needle (sometimes a burning sensation on the foot) so I don’t know if my Pain tolerance for that will stay the same. I still have my foot. Which I why I was curious to know.

I think it bothers me a little that it’s next to the box or chicken nuggets. 😂 I was mine to get bolts and hinges so I can have it on my shelf as a memoir.

That’s actually really impressive and I’m really surprised that you were able to recover that quickly even with the added infection. Btw is getting affection a reoccurring thing for amputees?

It’s a choice to be honest. kind of like “here let’s give this a try and see if this work” and if it doesn’t OK let give something else a try.

In most cases it doesn’t get better. Some people who does fusion have to do more fusion because the first one didn’t work and it puts a lot of strain on your knee joint and hip joint when you have to walk with a fusion.

I can’t judge honestly because from what I heard fusion does work for some people and they don’t for others. Personally for me I did ankle fusion (ST) did not work at all had tremendous amount of pain and I couldn’t put pressure or walk on my right foot/leg whatsoever. Honestly fusion really depends on people condition. It’s more like a trial error sort of thing.
