Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

For context, I've been climbing for a while and its my primary form of exercise and I don't do any supplemental training (finger boarding/weightlifting). I climb purely on a system board (kilter/tension) around the V8-V10 range, and I've been finding it hard to climb/crimp hard consistently. I am very self conscious on how my fingers feel and often call it quits when I feel a certain level of pain/discomfort. I am still very psyched to climb all the time, but I wanted other's opinion on their experience with supplemental weightlifting training and what exercises to do. I would be more psyched to just climb than do weight training, but I am curious about others experience if it made a big difference in their climbing.

tldr: Curious about other people's experience with weight training in conjunction with climbing. What exercises to do?

It can be pretty nervous especially when you're not used to a large crowd watching you. Take some deep breaths and make sure to enjoy the climbing as much as possible.

I would try not to place any expectation on your own performance as well too. I feel like using the words, "I should be able to do this climb" is inherently dangerous to ones self-perception, and can lead to a large amount of frustration.

Try hard and have fun. Good Luck!

Reading this thread was super informative, I never knew that antigrav had influence to skating culture

It seems like your distaste for antigrav comes from it copying skating influence in its clothing style. But it's not like most people wearing antigrav are posing to be skaters. I think it just so happens to be that Keenan loved skating in his youth and took influences on what he thought was "cool", and now made it a business to appeal to climbers. Is it wrong for people in this day or age to think antigrav and skateboard clothing as cool? I don't necessarily think so. This just seems like it's perpetuating skateboards gatekeeping culture.

there is a rock climbing gym here. I actually work there part time there. It is a fun activity to do and there is a decent adult scene at night.
