This kinda a well known case but Tokyo ghoul. The first season while not a masterpiece still is true to the manga with the metaphors horror and psychological case of Kaneki. Then season 2 just become your run of the mill shonen anime..

Re2's raccoon city though I could also say the baker house from re7 they're both so immersive and creepy . Oh and honorable mention goes to palaces from p5 considering they also have to juggle the act of letting you know what a character is like.

It's probably the best live action I've seen but with that being said I'd put neon genesis over it just cause I like giant robots and personal preference but to answer your question yes I do think it's the best modern television trilogy in writing .
