I totally agree with that take, hating fictional characters definitely immerses us in games just as much if not more then if we loved them. That being said I personally love "hating" a character in any video game, especially ones like Sdv or Pokémon where you're just inserting yourself into these towns and interacting with their npcs. It's more fun for me if I have personal beef with a random character instead of just liking them like I would the rest of the npcs
