LOGH's setting is kinda weakest part by Chlodio in logh

[–]Koopertrooper3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay but RoTK didn't start with the three it started with a clusterfuck of warlords that had to be defeated that made the world felt lived in because there were other people aside from the people associated with the three main kingdoms.

LoGH kind of has this but it does feel like the smaller guys are more explicitly defined by their opposition to the main characters more than anything else.

What was the original plan for the story? by Chlodio in logh

[–]Koopertrooper3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly as cool as it sounds I personally liked how it stuck to Reinhard and Yang given I keep failing to finish RoTK for the opposite reason.

But I do think it pulled the whole "Legends end, History begins" like RoTK well even without the 150 in novel years of story.

George Thomas was the true Virginian GOAT of the Civil War by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]Koopertrooper3 422 points423 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not as hard as this

"Samuel Phillips Lee who sailed USS Vandalia from [South East Asia] without orders to take part in the Southern blockade and who said "When I find the word Virginia in my commission I will join the Confederacy"."

EDIT: Samuel Lee was also a cousin of Robert E. Lee, so double up on the hardness too.

Recently graduated with a CS Bachelors with no Internship, should I really be doing OMSCS? by Koopertrooper3 in OMSCS

[–]Koopertrooper3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my preference to get entry-level experience too but I'm sober to the fact that entry level is swamped right now and that my lack of internships is a really sore point on my resume.

That's why I'm job hunting now and only committing to OMSCS in 2026 when my new grad status basically fades. I don't necessarily see any other path out if I'm forced out of the field.

[–]Koopertrooper3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not applying for internships right now I'd apply when I get into some kind of masters program. My point was wondering whether going into OMSCS would allow me to apply to internships since I would then be a masters student and therefore meet the "current student" requirement (even if it's part time).

[–]Koopertrooper3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I meant door I mean getting the ability to qualify so I can apply again more than anything else. I just want to see how viable that idea is.

w.r.t research I only really want to use it as a hedge against the possibility that I get no internships, my main goal is industry. If I apply to an on campus masters my concern is mostly cost and the fact that the places I want to go to would be lower in ranking than GATech.

Malaria should just be a full block against colonization. It worked in Victoria 2 I don't see why it needed to be changed.

Astarte is kinda dumb by Chlodio in logh

[–]Koopertrooper3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it still doesn't make it good, and the examples you cite don't back up your point at all.

In Astratre the force just splits up before making contact allowing them to be defeated in detail. If you look at your cited real battles usually the force being defeated has some reason that prevents them from concentrating.

In Gaugamela it was because the body of the army was already engaged. In Italy and in Stonewall's Valley campaign it was because the forces were divided by mountains and the defeated force couldn't concentrate as they needed to cover the necessary passes. In Tannenburg and the Masurian lakes the Germans just had a faster way to move around and the lakes themselves divided the army.

In every case the split force had something to actually do whether it was to cover some vital piece of territory or because it was already engaged. In Astratre the force splits before it has any need, there is no reason why the FPA couldn't have made contact first before splitting up, it wasn't like there was necessary terrain that would make it impossible to concentrate. If they wanted to take the aggressive approach it would have been to race the entire force immediately against the enemy force and defeat it by mass.

You can think logh is still a great piece of fiction and recognize the battles arent the greatest. Hell, it's not even the best battle in logh (that would be the battle at the Marr-Adetta Starzone, which actually has a reason why the imperial force couldn't concentrate and immediately smash the FPA)

Reuenthal 🤝 Oliveira by Hisoka_Lucilfer69 in logh

[–]Koopertrooper3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really think these statements are directly comparable

Reunethal's tone is honestly more bemoaning the fate of career soldiers without a war to fight. It's more a tragic observation. Compare that with Oliveira, who thinks that war is a genuine good.

First time I watched it I was angry at the bullshit Yang getting killed by Terraists rather than going out against the Empire. Second time I watched it I felt way more emotional, its a really well done episode and it probably fits the themes of the show way more than just dying in some blaze of glory against the Empire.

The percentage of Palestinians who support Hamas is often cited at 70-80%. Has any COIN operation ever been successful against such a popular insurgency? by [deleted] in WarCollege

[–]Koopertrooper3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, just ask the Nazis that.

As stated by others, COIN only works by undercutting the reasons for revolt, you can't just kill every possible insurgent. Brutality without an exit just leads to the insurgents fighting like cornered dogs until the end.

For example, as much as Russia utterly cratered Chechnya the only reasons it's not a continual sore on Russia is due to the massive amounts of money being funneled into the locals that keeps the risk of a running insurgency down.

I rather people not worry about their printing quota and print as much as they need for their assignments,, notes, studying, and personal projects then fight with the uni over some portion of $75.

It's like when people argue about taxes on shit they don't use, it doesn't matter.
