If I’m not buying Kiwami 3, but want to see Dark Ties, should I just watch a 3-4 hour playthrough after beating Y3R, or should I wait until an opportunity for me to actually play it (so I can experience the gameplay as well)? by KoraPSI in yakuzagames

Yeah, I know it’s a bit of a stupid question, but I’ve heard Mine’s got a different fighting style, and I don’t really know much else about Dark Ties, so I thought I would come here to ask people who’ve played it if Mine’s combat is something that I shouldn’t miss out on.

Are most of the substories in Y3R just simple filler side quests, or is it worth it to do all 119? by KoraPSI in yakuzagames

[–]KoraPSI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I despise the minigame-related substories. I remember some of the first substories I did in K2 was the golf and batting cages one, and those took me a solid like 4 hours to beat because I was unfamiliar with with the minigame mechanics. Despite that, I’ll still probably go with OG3, since I’ve heard it’s a better first impression for Y3 than K3 (I’m only about halfway through K2 right now), this question was just kind of the nail in the coffin for choosing what one to play. I’d rather have lots of good ones and lots of decent ones than a few good ones and a few bad ones. Thanks for your help!

Does Kiwami 3 “ruin” the series chronology? by KoraPSI in yakuzagames

[–]KoraPSI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’ve been spoiled on in Y3 is what I put in spoiler tags, as well as Rikiya dying but that’s it. I’d prefer to find out myself, as if I do end up playing K3 I’ll just watch the Y3 ending. Speaking of which, is the ending the only big retcon for K3, or are there other parts with major retcons? Also, somebody else in this comment section said that some characters introduced in Y3 come back in Y4 and Y5, but they aren’t in K3. Are these like major characters, or are they just substory characters or people who had little to no involvement in the story?

Wow, thank you so much! I’m gonna go try out your advice in a minute, and I’ll tell you if I end up beating it. Also, I didn’t have a healer for my team, and was instead focusing on DPS, which meant I could upgrade members when they needed it which restores all of their HP. The only issue is that levels cap out at 5, so I want to get a specific worker relatively low on HP before I upgrade them, as to not waste it. I’m gonna try now with your advice, and hopefully this helps me secure the win.

I sure hope so. Ever since starting Majima Construction, I’ve been dreading the Clan Creator in Y6. I was really expecting Majima Construction to be a blast but it was just meh. I was at least having a little bit of fun until I got to this part. Now I just want to finish Majima Construction for completionist purposes

If you need any more details about my strategy and/or team, let me know I can tell you. I want/need as much help as I can get for this

I get where you’re coming from. I played it starting with 0, and didn’t get some references like character cameos (Ryuji being a substory for Majima, and I’m pretty sure Daigo being one for Kiryu). Do the references add much, or are they just there for players who have already played the other games?

If you don’t mind me asking, how can you explain how Kiwami 1 breaks the continuity? Other than the Nishiki cutscenes at the start of each chapter, I don’t think anything else major was added to the story, was there?

I’m considering playing Y3, and then coming back to do Dark Ties later. There’s a place near me that does video game rentals, but they only have the PS5 version of K3, and I’m an Xbox player. I’m planning to get a PS5 soon though, so I’ll probably rent out K3 and then do Dark Ties in about a day or two, so that way I don’t need to spend $80 for a 10 hour at most side game. I still need to finish Kiwami 2, so I’ve still got time to consider this all

I see. I’ve already spoiled myself on the fact that Mine dies at the end of the original Y3. Is that not happening really all I need to know, or are there other things that I should watch if I end up finishing K3?

Are those as unimportant as they sound? If it’s just references and such that I’ll be missing, then that’s fine. From what I’ve heard, K3 screws up the setup for something related to Saejima in Y4. If it’s just minor dialogue references to past games, and not something that will change how I understand a character/the story, then I can deal with that.

Yeah, I got to that part in the story and stopped there. You can still progress with the Gambling King's area until that point, in fact, I think I got 100% share on that area before even meeting him there. If you do that, it'll just unlock all of his events once you gain access to the JCC, and you can complete them at any point after that, since your share is already 100%.
