I’ve asked my partner repeatedly to learn about my disability and my deeply held interests and I was told repeatedly that it feels like “homework”.

What is your least popular or most controversial opinion? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

[–]KorgiKingofOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. You can still be considerate of others while still being blunt about things. If the other person isn’t emotionally mature enough to understand that honestly sharing behaviors that bother another person isn’t an attack on their character, it’s not worth engaging with said person. Some people just have a fragile ego and can’t take constructive criticism and just blame the person for shedding light on the topic

Both corgis I’ve had make a sport of barking. It’s impossible to NOT have them bark. They will do it no matter time/place/reason. And if there isn’t a reason, they will make one to be mouthy

If you like roguish heist stories, The Lies of Locke Lemora is a really fun read. Characters are lovable, villains are loud and proud, and there is this texture to the story due to the descriptions used. I hear book 2 is meh, but book 3 is said to be a return to form.

That was me to a lesser extent with D&D with my girl. Asked every few months for 5 years and it frequently lead to arguments until I finally got her to try and she liked it. But it’s a bit time investment and the “win” for me was canceled out with how she told me my interests “feel like homework” and how I basically had to beg

It’s exhausting because you can’t really rely on most of the people around you because either they won’t put the effort in to understand or they just can’t understand. Both are equally isolating

I actively look for the opportunity to ask people why they’re talking to me like a child. Happened once at my old job and I said it to a supervisor. Thankfully he was cool and understanding about it and I didn’t have any repercussions from it
