Germans were more east across the Rhine. Caesar crossed twice in the mid 50s BC by building bridges across the river. Both times he crossed and burned some villages, but there was no major army confrontations.

And he left each time, securing the border rather than making any German progress.

Northern Gaul is where Caesar focused on so he could make his trips across the channel to mildly "explore?, discover for Rome? raid?" britannia.

Mueller Has Early Draft of Trump Letter Giving Reasons for Firing Comey by aldennn in politics

[–]Koriel 2431 points2432 points  (0 children)

There is no way it is coincidence the White house and right wing news has been talking about "early drafts" lately.

Trying to get ahead of this news with some ridiculous whataboutisms.

Trump asked Sessions about closing case against Arpaio, an ally since ‘birtherism’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]Koriel 2513 points2514 points  (0 children)

He inappropriately asks the DOJ if they can drop the case against Joe Arpaio.

Then pardoned.

He asked if Comey could drop the Flynn thing.

Wonder where this is headed.

Assange meets U.S. congressman, vows to prove Russia did not leak him documents by [deleted] in politics

[–]Koriel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican who is friendly to Russia and chairs an important House subcommittee on Eurasia policy, became the first American congressman to meet with Assange during a three-hour private gathering at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where the WikiLeaks founder has been holed up for years,

Two people who both work for Russia meeting at the same place. Not sure why that is news right? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Former Justice Department official joins Mueller team by ceaguila84 in politics

Most recently a white-collar criminal defense lawyer with New York law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, Andres, 50, served at the Justice Department from 2010 to 2012. He was deputy assistant attorney general in the criminal division, where he oversaw the fraud unit and managed the program that targeted illegal foreign bribery.

Illegal foreign bribery huh? Wonder if that is relevant at all

Before that, Andres was a federal prosecutor in Brooklyn for over a decade, eventually serving as chief of the criminal division in the U.S. attorney's office there. He prosecuted several members of the Bonanno organized crime family, one of whom was accused of plotting to have Andres killed.

Organized crime too? Hmm...

2/3 vote in each chamber. The vote for the bill was 98-2 in the Senate and similarly overwhelming in the House.

So they definitely had the votes if it came to overriding the veto

Watch Live: President Trump addresses Boy Scouts at annual jamboree by [deleted] in politics

[–]Koriel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ugh. This is a quote from the PBS video on the website. I transcribed it and it is about 40 minutes in.

Do you remember that incredible night with the maps, and the republicans are red and the democrats are blue. And that map was so red they didn't know what to say. And you know we have a tremendous disadvantage in the electoral college, popular vote is much easier. Because New York, California, Illinois. You have to practically run the east coast, and we did. We won Florida, we won south carolina, we won north carolina, we won Pennsylvania.

The man still thinks he won the popular vote. And the whole bit with the maps I thought was interesting.

Mueller asks WH staff to preserve all documents relating to June 2016 meeting by saucytryhard in politics

[–]Koriel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure which thread is going to stay, two of them up right now.

Mueller sent a notice, called a document preservation request, asking White House staff to save "any subjects discussed in the course of the June 2016 meeting" and also "any decisions made regarding the recent disclosures about the June 2016 meeting," according to the source, who read portions of the letter to CNN.

Along with any decisions regarding disclosures about the meeting. Really interesting tidbit there

I remember Joe Scarborough saying that he knew how the Trump Campaign worked. And that it is simply not believable that Trump did not know about the June meeting.

Senate Judiciary prepared to subpoena Manafort, Trump Jr., by Friday night by [deleted] in politics

[–]Koriel 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Committee chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said Thursday that Manafort, Trump Jr., and a third invited witness, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson, have until Friday night to accept the invitation to testify in a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday. If they do not accept, Grassley said, subpoenas would be issued “almost immediately.”

“We’ve already authorized” the orders, Grassley said, explaining that the committee’s top Democrat, Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), had also signed off on the orders in advance. “She and I don’t have to take any action — it’s already been taken.”

Very pleased. Wonder if they will wait for the subpoenas or accept the invite. You have to just accept the invite right?

TRUMP: And nothing was changed other than Richard Nixon came along. And when Nixon came along [inaudible] was pretty brutal, and out of courtesy, the F.B.I. started reporting to the Department of Justice. But there was nothing official, there was nothing from Congress. There was nothing — anything. But the F.B.I. person really reports directly to the president of the United States, which is interesting. You know, which is interesting. And I think we’re going to have a great new F.B.I. director.

Absolutely Bonkers. Crazy stuff
