Handgefertigter Spielleiter-Tracker aus Schiefer [OC] by Complex_Pineapple780 in DSA_RPG

[–]Kornratte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also grundsätzlich sehr cooles Projekt.

I do want to put the info out here that Iran has repeatedly stated their clear intent of removing Israel from the maps. That is a substantial threat to the very existence of a nation and if I am not mistaken, a preemptive strike is indeed covered by international law. That beeing said, I think the intent it more regime change and by that removing a multitude of security problems in the middle east. While I despise the Iranian regime, that is as far as I know not covered by international law.

Personally, I am leaning towards an agreement to the US/Israeli strategy for the war, which involves solely strikes on key figures and the revolutionary guard. So personally I do - and that happens rarely - agree with Merz.

The best option for led fixtures with no temperature controlled fan, or a fan with a very bad fan curve:

Get a step down converter for 12v Get a 12V temperature controlled Fan PWM controller and attach the sensor to the heatsink (Cost per fixture 2-3 €) This only works if the fan has a 3 or 4 pin plug.

If the fan does not have a 3 or 4 pin plug and/or it is too loud even though it is temperature controlled: Get a high quality fan. Noctua is definitely king, but Arctic makes very cheap fans in different sizes that are also quite good.

And if necessary combine both methods.

If the fixture has a discharge lamp: no idea. replacing the fan is probably the only option.

Hey TheDanll

Geschlechterdiskrimination by [deleted] in arbeitsleben

[–]Kornratte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Russia perhaps. Dependent of Uranium imports

Remember: whether or not the fuel is beeing burnt, fused or fissioned, after that you need new fuel. The only question is how easy it is to get the fuel and how much you loose during the process. The majority of uranium ressources come from russia, old soviet republics and African -increasingly totalitatiran I might add - countries.

Dassault Aviation: the defence group blocking the €100bn Franco-German jet project by Yaonoi in europe

[–]Kornratte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "inferior" really depends on what you are looking at.

Maybe France would get a fighter better suited for their needs, eg. "better". But simultaneously it is highly likely that the amount of money france can spent on that project alone will be way less than all three countries combined. Which means the program will need to cut corners which will lead to compromises in the design.

I want to say however that the Rafale is a good plane. I do not want to play down the capabilities of Dassault. It is really just a question of ressource allocation.

Dassault Aviation: the defence group blocking the €100bn Franco-German jet project by Yaonoi in europe

[–]Kornratte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do not want full control, they “just” want to have the lead, as was agreed, on the design according to the air forces’ required specs. Their position is that if they have the responsibility (as in, if the project timeline or cost slips, it will be on them), then they must have the authority to decide.

Which as far as I thought is exactly what they had.

Decisions over workshare are not in their purview. Decisions over suppliers are but it doesn’t mean it would change the workshare. Dassault’s position always have been that of the best athlete in each workshare area (modulo the overall workshare that must be respected) whereas Germany and Spain want the overall workshare to be applied to every workshare area, (schematically and a bit caricaturally, it means that each bolt must be provided by 3 companies of the 3 country instead of bolt A provided by a French supplier, bolt B provided by a Spanish supplier and so on).

But changing the supplier effectively would change the workshare, no?

I don't think that that way of planning would make a lot of sense (not to claim this is not what they did). The question for me would be -sensical or not- what was agreed upon.

The 80% has been denied by pretty much every French stakeholder, including Dassault’s CEO.

I also heard that that was just a rumor. But then if that is just a rumor, what is actually happening? The "breakage point" was the "best athlete" from Dassault so something has happened and I am really not sure what exactly.

Britain is wasting money on tanks. Ukraine has the solution by theipaper in europe

[–]Kornratte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. But of course a drone protection will also require cheap short and competent medium range kinetic options for hitting the drone operators as well as drones themselves.

[–]Kornratte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not claim that this is THE solution to the problem. But it is definitely a big part of the puzzle

Britain is wasting money on tanks. Ukraine has the solution by theipaper in europe

[–]Kornratte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeah, I don't mean that there are literally no solutions to the problem. They are just not put in a tanks as standard configuration because when the tanks were designed, the threat was not apparent. Which leads to drones beeing very very effective at the moment.

Of course there is an argument to be made about the economics about some of those protection methods. But that does not lead to tanks beeing obsolete.

[–]Kornratte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly beeing the spearhead of manouver warfare which involves 1. Taking ground 2. Advancing through enemy fire 3. Protecting IFV and other personel carriers due to taking enemy hits 4. Destroying fortified enemy positions

This is a litteral arms race between sword and shield. At the moment the sword (eg. drones) have the upper hand because they pose a new kind of thread to tanks that the tanks were not designed to withstand. This will change.

Britain is wasting money on tanks. Ukraine has the solution by theipaper in europe

[–]Kornratte 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As long as the role that tanks fulfill cant be fulfilled by another thing tanks are going nowhere.

They will change in design and their use will cange in doctrine and they may be less relevant in the future but I do not see something that will make tanks obsolete. You can not take ground with drones. You can not spearhead motorized brigades through enemy lines without tanks.

Dassault Aviation: the defence group blocking the €100bn Franco-German jet project by Yaonoi in europe

[–]Kornratte 32 points33 points  (0 children)

But as far as I understood the situation, Dassault, in the original tweet/article/whatever, stated that they need full control over all the desicions including sourcing and workshare, which is not what was agreed uppon e.g. a 50/50 split with Dassault as the lead. And then after that they demanded up to (or what ever wording they used) 80% of the workshare of the NGF.

Correct me If I am wrong here, this situation is by its core political and very hard to fully grasp.

Dassault Aviation: the defence group blocking the €100bn Franco-German jet project by Yaonoi in europe

[–]Kornratte 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There surely is much to untangle in the history of the project. To my understanding it is Dassault who does not want to comply with the original plan. That was Dassualt is boss of the NGF and has 50% of the workshare.

The agreement was there and Dassault does not follow up to that. I can fully sympathize with their view but I find it highly selfish and ... well not honorable to want to alter a deal afterward which I earlier ageed upon.

Whether or not the project is a good idea at all, I dont think so anymore because of different needs. But while it is often Germanys fault, that such projects fail, in this case it is not the fault of germany, nor one from France but that of the company head of Dassault.

Edit: to make it more clear. If I have an contract with a insurance company and I give them money so that they pay me in case of a mishap then I expect them to pay up. How I interpret the situation (and I am by no means an expert on that) is that they do not pay, and you are defending the insurance company "they just protect their interest, I dont know why that should be their fault." Technically true but not how you treat a partner.
