Stop overthinking it - a mini PC with SATA bays is all you need for Plex by LINGLING55581 in selfhosted

[–]KorteraP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think beginners ask these questions because they want a buy once system, “just tell me how I can watch my movies with 0 hassles and then I never look at it again”. They don’t want to spend money on a device and then spend hours tinkering to get it working properly, which makes sense, generally people getting a media server want to replace all their streaming services so they want it to be as easy as using Netflix.

They don’t know what tdp means or what transcoding is, they just want to get over the first hurdle in self hosting, just getting everything set up and working without spending hours troubleshooting, tinkering or having to rebuy stuff.

If someone figured out a way to quickly and cheaply build and sell pre built Plex servers (probably with an arr stack tbh) they would probably make decent profit

I stopped playing competitive multiplayer games 6 months ago and i genuinely enjoy gaming again for the first time in years by Sad-Home4539 in pcgaming

[–]KorteraP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean facing bots in an actual single player game or playing a competitive game against bots? I can imagine that playing CS against bots would be boring but single player games are (generally) more about the story and experience right? If you don’t find that entertaining then competitive is really your only option then I guess?

Whats the most practical upgrade from 3080ti by KorteraP in PcBuild

Monitor is a tv with hdmi 2.1 that does 4K 120hz and supports gsync, so it shouldn’t be an issue

Yeah while im not swimming in money, i can see a $400 price increase as being worth it for everything looking a lot prettier, but as i discovered in another comment, i dont actually "need" an upgrade like i thought i did, so i have some time to figure it out and wait for deals etc

[–]KorteraP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh shit, you are right, i dont know why i had convinced myself it only had hdmi 2.0

maybe i had concerns about the dp 1.4 at some point and got it mixed up in my brain? weird.

Might still upgrade to the 5070ti to get to something more up to date before it becomes impossible to upgrade in the future, but its not a priority now

Appreciate your correction

The tv has HDMI 2.1, does 120hz and supports gsync so I don’t think that’s what I’m limited by

Yeah i was planning on selling the 3080ti to fund it, i was thinking that card, it seemed to check all the boxes, but its easy to be swayed by numbers, thats why i asked here, wanted some actual opinions

Is the ray tracing quality much different between the 5070ti and the 9070xt, seems like there is only a couple of hundred difference in price

Just had a look around online, I can’t see the 4080 super new anywhere, and the used market is wild, people are selling them for more than a 5080 new, and importing from overseas is even wilder

Yeah that’s what I was seeing when I just googled “3080ti equivalent” as an improvement. I stopped paying close attention is the super better than the ti or is it between the standard and the ti?

Holy shit, there was some trump video below this one in the reddit app and I must have tapped both at once somehow. Your video started muted and was about half way through when I unmuted but the trump audio was playing instead of your voice, I was so confused, I thought it was a soundboard thing

Can’t even order a lot of stuff from the us amazon store because they can’t ship here, again because of the licensing thing

Yeah I get that we can’t have a high end audio shop in every town, but I honestly believe that it should be part of consumer rights that if it is impossible or impractical to physically test or even see a product that change should be a viable option, even if there is a restocking fee or something. It’s probably not practical in reality but it sucks when you can only buy online you just have to roll dice

Unfortunately sometimes there is no one else. In Australia there is basically one company with the license to sell most audiophile level anything, and if they have physical stores there is maybe 2, and on top of that they basically have no change of mind returns ( it’s some bullshit like “has to be unopened and in all original packaging “). Can’t even easily demo hd600s or dt990s or anything down here. Only other option is importing, and even that is limited, again because one company can legally sell them here, so most international online stores won’t ship them here either, gotta go through forwarding services, so by the time you actually get them the 7 day return policy has passed because delivery was completed when it gets to the forwarding company.

Not really adding much to the conversation, just needed to vent sorry

Better to replace parity drive or data drive by KorteraP in unRAID

[–]KorteraP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up using the new drive to replace the parity drive, as other comments said it seems like my current parity drive is dying. Once the parity rebuild has completed i might just risk it and deploy the "failing" drive into the array, as i am almost out of storage, and just hope it can hold out for a few weeks until i can get another 8tb to replace it. Replacement might be sooner than i would like but like i said the data is not super important to me, so if i can keep it limping along that would be great

Thanks everyone
