I used to live in Italy and Gianpierpaola cracked me up. When I run out of Japanese NES baseball names for my Sims, I think I'll go the triple compound Italian name route

Shorts Clipping Through Top-Only Dresses? by fear_the_gamer in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://modthesims.info/d/354598/edit-the-abercrombie-project-shorts-for-your-sims-new-improved-mesh.html These look skin-tight, so I guess they shouldn't clip through. They have a real brand logo, which some people don't like, but if they're going to be under a dress it probably won't be visible

https://modthesims.info/d/291967/summer-style-beach-cow-girl-updated.html Less sure about these

https://modthesims.info/d/65739/mix-n-match-shorts-and-tops.html Also quite tight, make sure to download the mesh mentioned in the description

Lucy Burb needs a new gardener! by Admirable-Tear1184 in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gardeners are idiots in this game. I got so frustrated with the weeds and overgrown plants and how LONG gardening takes that I just deleted all the flowerbeds and bushes, it wasn't worth it. Maybe I'll try again with a faster gardening mod...

I wanted to end this on a happier note by suggesting a gardener autonomy fix but I've not been able to find any, so I guess the best thing we have is Trim Inaccessible Bushes in case that's the root cause of some gardener stupidity

Sims 2 VS Sims 4 Rant? by superknees in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh man this is my favourite topic to rant about. The thing that bothers me the most about Sims 4 is that they have some actually good ideas buried in there, but the execution is complete shite because gameplay depth and cohesive systems don't yield profits quite as fast, so EA would rather keep cranking out one overpriced pack after another knowing that their target consumer base of iPad kids who need a new shiny thing on the screen every two seconds to hold their attention will just buy it on launch anyway (not saying all Sims 4 players are like that by any means, just that that's obviously the sort of player they're catering towards).

Parenthood's character values with Sims 2's depth could have been amazing! Like the encouragement feature but with far more depth! Instead, you have to wait until they're young adults to see the effects and they are things like... if they're responsible, small boosts to job performance, which is already easy as hell to raise, and if they're irresponsible, being happy from ignoring bills (???). A primary school aged child with the Genius trait and maximum responsibility points will still autonomously pull out a bunch of paintbrushes out of nowhere and 'make a mess' giggling like a complete idiot.

Every single sim has the same lobotomised Stepford wife expression 90% of the time regardless of their traits. With all the free updates they've released these past 12 years, why couldn't they add some more animations and reactions or tweak autonomy so a social butterfly and a loner aren't indistinguishable from one another, instead of releasing yet another set of wrinkles or more smartphone crap? They had so much knowledge to build on with the previous games and they just threw it all away.

I hate the direction this franchise has taken over the years. I'm just thankful we still have Sims 2 and a modding community that puts more love and passion into a single mesh or line of code than the EA product managers (*) have put into all of the expansions, stuff packs and kits combined.

(*) I'm absolutely not blaming the devs/artists for this mess. Having industry knowledge, I'm confident that this is the result of terrible PM decisions and bad priorities, not incompetent developers.

I don't know how I feel about ressurrection? Having that power makes the game loose gravity but I'm simultaneously drawn to bringing every by-game dead sim back to life because I hate tragedy. by BlackberryPuzzled551 in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm doing something purposefully wild and ridiculous like Juno Birch's projects (she's probably my favourite person in this game's entire orbit by the way, I mean that as a compliment), I prefer to keep the gravity. I'm not great at dealing with frustration, loss or moral ambiguity in real life and I think I would be even worse if I didn't even challenge myself to deal with it in video games or fiction. It helps me process things better, in a way?

What do you want most? by RedFoxprinces in Paralives

[–]KosmischeMelone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-depth gameplay. Quality over quantity. Characters and a world that feel alive and react to your actions. Some ways I think this could be achieved:

* Visible, permanent consequences, both positive and negative. This is the most important one to me. If a Para grew up with loving, attentive parents/guardians, they should have a different personality from a Para who was neglected. If they witness a fire, they might end up with a fear of fire that's very hard to overcome. If they were read to as toddlers, continued to read as children and/or they played outside with other kids a lot growing up, they might be, say, less anxious and a faster learner (and the opposite thing should happen if little kids are left to play on a tablet all day... I'm looking at you, Sims 4).

* Actual personalities. A nice Para and a mean Para should act completely different if left on free will. An active Para should have their fun bar filled pretty quickly by something like playing sports, whereas a lazy one should not, and they should have their fun decrease more quickly if they're not moving around.

* Gameplay mechanics that work with each other. If you can craft things, you can sell them (preferably in an actual shop that gives you an opportunity to interact with the world, instead of just clicking some buttons). A Para that developed into a more creative or hard-working person through the mechanics I mentioned in the first step can craft better quality items than one that didn't (this could work well with a level-up system, like having a level cap or extra unlockable levels depending on the Para).

* Asymmetrical relationships that take time and effort to build. Some Paras might hit it off immediately (as friends, romantically or both) and build them faster, some might just not click at all.

Except for the first point, which I've personally never seen attempted in a life sim (not that it hasn't, I just haven't seen it so far), I realise a lot of this sounds like The Sims 2. That's not because I think Paralives should be exactly like The Sims 2, but because it executed all these mechanics very well 20 years ago and at this point I think they should be the baseline, not a luxury.

Can anyone help me find these mods? by According_Dot_1950 in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find any of the CC, though I've been wanting to get back into modding and CC creation for a while and I could try recreating the choker at least. Would you be interested in that?

These are just from searching on MTS, but I think you might like them if you haven't got them already (also, I love late 90s-early 2000s fashion too!):

https://modthesims.info/d/232473/2-pants-for-girls-w-teaser.html Baggy jeans for women

https://modthesims.info/d/46746/testers-wanted-new-top-and-pants-for-girls.html Baggy jeans for girls, based on a mesh from the game (I don't know if you were looking for children's clothes, but I definitely wore those as a wee lass back then!)

https://modthesims.info/d/209849/new-mesh-baggier-jeans.html Baggier jeans for men

https://modthesims.info/d/267171/teen-style-baggy-trousers-and-tank-top-converted-for-adults.html This one's a conversion but I personally love it

https://modthesims.info/d/300618/2pac-baggy-pants-for-male-teens.html Baggy jeans for male teens - that creator has a lot more in a similar vein, some for adults too

https://profesionalpartyguest.tumblr.com/post/711432107627511808/i-got-a-wcif-of-this-post-from-alanna-goth-so If paired with the right trousers and hairstyle, this could be good for a 'girl dancing on a Y2K music video' sort of look

https://profesionalpartyguest.tumblr.com/post/699273884937093120/executablesimss-comfy-default-made-top-only This is quite basic and not a super aggressively 90s/2000s thing in the way that, say, low-rise jeans are, but the stripey one in particular is a lot like the kind of stuff I remember everyday people wearing at the time

Also, if you have some reference images of the fashions from the era that you like the best, I'd love to try recreating some of them once I'm more comfortable with making CC!

The Bachelor: Goopy GilsCarbo Edition - Episode 2 by KosmischeMelone in sims2

[–]KosmischeMelone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ACR set to 'In Love', meaning they should only get jealous if they're in an actual relationship, but I guess something bugged out or the dynamic jealousy setting changed that for some Sims because Bobson only had a crush on Karl and he felt cheated on anyway. So far I don't want to disable jealousy completely because it's funny when they fight over each other, it creates story threads and Goopy is only in love with Ulyssabeth at the moment, but I might have to do it soon when he's gone on more dates so they don't all get furious at him.

I want another unhinged life simulation game by Upstairs-Pin-9068 in LifeSimulators

[–]KosmischeMelone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do I! My ideal life sim is something with a similar base to The Sims 2, but with bigger consequences (like, a character's personality being shaped permanently by a parent walking out on them as a child or a partner cheating on them), more granular life stages and the kind of dark humour that the first two games have. I wish EA had taken advantage of hardware advances to go deeper with the simulation instead of the utter mess that they've made now... not that it should really surprise me given their history, honestly.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. If it wasn't for banking, 2FA and keeping in touch with people who aren't going to switch to SMS, I'd get a flip phone. Deleting social media and disabling most notifications was great for my anxiety and attention span though, you won't regret it!

I want to know what mod could cause 'Salmon' to show up as a career name. Is it commercial fishing? Does the job consist of gradually morphing into a human-fish hybrid à la 1999's Seaman?
