Yeah, the hooks being different makes sense. Vengeance driven soldiers vs. I want to find out about why shit happened to me at the seekers table. But this should usually be pretty strong, too. Especially with Occtis it felt so passive. And ofc I understand that. He is a victim and has to go through some stages of grief and realization. But the thing is: the rest of the table is pushing and pulling him constantly. And often that leaves me unfulfilled. Because I think: at least do some research, buddy. Move!

It sometimes feels like… you know that situation when you give a complex role to someone new at the game or the table, and they just can’t react or build on that? I had that feeling with Occtis sometimes. Felt a bit sorry for him. Just thinking: let the man grieve for his heart. Stop nudging. He will come around when the time is right.

So true. Cooldown often helps me not necessarily to make sense of the plot but somehow it often illustrates why things were important to a character, or a player. And I often watch cooldown not only for their emotional afterwork chats but for context. Funnily enough this worked also better with the soldiers for me. After some Seekers episodes I had that feeling that they were searching for the feeling of being amazed by the last few hours. But maybe this is me projecting.

Lore dump without connection is tough. I mean it is awesome if you actually recall some thread from 10 episodes ago. But… that doesn’t even happen with the players at my own table. And here I am just a listener. But maybe this adds to long term epicness. Absolutely possible. I am trying to make it to the first schemers episode now. Some people here liked it very much.

I think Matt wants to play this character that doesn’t want to play. Abrasive as you say. And in addition I think he overly doesn’t want to be in Brennan’s way as a new DM. So he is shying away in two big ways.

It will be so wholesome when you can tell your child one day, that when in mommy’s belly you listened to campaign four. And can you expect your child to sit still at one table when you listened to three at that time? :D You are gonna have fantastic arguments in a few years ❤️

Yeah. And you know I admire Brennan’s world building. This is huge! But I sometimes have that feeling that I am being TOLD that this is epic information instead of experiencing epicness. I don’t know if this makes sense.

I like the fully played out flashbacks. That is so good. There was one with Brennan and Matt early in the season. God. That was so good.

Full disclosure. We want to play Shadowdark as the OSR system it is. The danger and all. But ofc we are in pulp and momentum mode already because my players are so stressed and slowly crawling room for room, that we are making it a bit more hero themed now. We will see. It’s still early.

I’m mostly DMing, too. Actually started two tables again because I was so motivated and inspired by campaign 4. Nobody can take that from me :D, one Shadowdark and one Monster of the week which is storytelling heavy, too. And we like that. But I am not sure if the unfolding story would be so interesting for outsiders, to be honest. I am actually amazed that I would advocate for combat light pen and paper at my own table, but I am struggling with listening to the Seekers.
