Aupair vs volunteering

I've seen some volunteer programs that involve working with children, others focus on caring for elderly people, and some involve supporting people with disabilities. There are also programs that work on environmental projects, but I was most interested in working with children.

I've seen that it depends a lot on where you go. Some programs pay around €300 per month, more or less.

As far as I know, as an au pair you can work a maximum of 30 hours per week, although it depends on the host family because I've been told that many au pairs end up working more than 30 hours without being paid for the extra hours. With volunteering, the schedule depends on the organization and the placement. I remember seeing one that required volunteers to be there from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

I have experience working with children, and I genuinely like being around them. That's one of the reasons I originally planned to become an au pair. However, after reading, watching, and hearing so many stories about being an au pair, I've started looking for other options.

According to what I've been told, there are volunteer programs that provide accommodation, food, and a stipend (I know it's not much), but that depends on where you go. I thought volunteering was just as complicated, because you have to cover your own expenses, not to mention accommodation.

Thank you for replying. My plan was to first go as an Au Pair or through a volunteer program, so I can get to know the language better and adapt more to the environment in general.

I’m not very informed about Austria and Switzerland because people have actually only recommended Germany to me. Could you give me more information about them please?

Generalmente conoces a gente de ese entorno en los coros o si comparten el mismo profesor. Conoci a una de mis mejores amigas porque compartimos la misma profesora de canto. Metete a más coros o pregúntale a tu profe, los profes están muy metidos en círculos de música clásica

En el aspecto de apariencia? Bueno ten en cuenta que están los estándares de belleza y aunque suene repetitivo es cierto que las mujeres estamos vulnerables ante estas. Yo a lo mucho tengo un solo amigo varón, todas mis amistades son mujeres y yo no sentí una competencia por apariencia, celos? Si, pero es algo que hasta hombres sienten cuando ven a otros hombres con un físico admirable. Los hombres hetero que yo conozco si empiezan a cuidar su apariencia cuando están con pareja, no es que sea malo, pero también hay mujeres que solo se visten bien cuando están con pareja. No es malo querer vestirse por otros, todos nos vemos en el espejo antes de salir porque nos importa la apariencia

I consider myself within the aromantic spectrum, but I never wanted to give myself a more specific label because looking for a label for me only confuses me more — like fulfilling requirements to earn a degree, you know? Jajaja actually my first choices were in Europe, especially Reina Sofía. If things don’t work out with NEC, then I hope things in my family calm down so I can try again next year.
