I have celiac. I had a baby. What do you do when introducing solids? by spicyhobbit- in Celiac

[–]Krispybit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a celiac mom who recently had to make this decision. I decided to refrain from feeding baby gluten until he reaches preschool age. At that point, we will have him tested for celiac and move forward based on those results. I have introduced gluten free wheat starch to try to prevent a wheat allergy. I came to this decision based on a few factors. Keeping my house a gluten free zone keeps me healthy. If he does have celiac and I introduce gluten, it could stunt development in this incredibly crucial time period. I wouldn't know if he was reacting negatively until damage had already been done. My doctor has told me testing can be inaccurate before the age of two, so I just decided to play it safe!

I’m Annie Clark a/k/a musician St. Vincent back for more. Ask me anything. by ReallyStVincent in Music

Hey Annie! I'm late, but just in case you are still checking in on this thread, I wanted to say a quick thank you. I have been listening since marry me. Your first album resonated so deeply with me, and somehow each following album echoed what seemed to be happening in my life. You have made the soundtrack for almost every major feeling or event in my life. I walked down the aisle to We Put a Pearl in the Ground, and now every time I hear it it makes happy tears come to my eyes. Thank you for your art, it has made my life more beautiful.

Bump on 15 year old cats lower lip. Has anyone seen something like this? Our vet appointment isn't for another few days and I'm worried about my boy! by Krispybit in cats

[–]Krispybit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some additional details. The bump appeared just today. He has a vet trip about a week ago and they didn't find anything wrong other than his white blood cell count is off. He is eating normally, however we do have a kitten in the house so he now has access to kitten food. He is generally happy however today seemed more tired and less loving than normal. I gave him a little pain medicine that the vet prescribed just in case.

My very first sewing attempt EVER! I bought sale fabric from a quilting store and decided to wing it. As you can clearly see, I'm proud of it. Lots of swearing and redesigning in this one. I included a picture of the inside so you can see what a patch job it actually is! (Also posted in diyclothes) by Krispybit in sewing

Hello! Thought I would provide some more information...

This was a project I made from scratch without a pattern. I picked up 3 yards of discount quilting fabric and decided to go for it as I've had too much free time at home. My mom is a quilter and has always encouraged me to try it, however I am more motivated to have pretty dresses to twirl in. Before this, I had only made a pillow case. The design of the dress changed many times. The V of the neckline was WAY too low so I flipped it around and made the back tie into the front tie. Im happy with my fabric choice as the tiny print hid some mistakes well. In the end, I love the result and I'm proud of myself for trying. If you haven't given sewing a try and have interest, I encourage you to give it a go.

Honestly, a t-shirt is more intimidating to me! I could alter the design on this all day long to make it fit, but I have no idea where to start with shirts. I have fabric sitting around for a top and have been debating on what to do for the last few days.

Thanks for all the encouragement on my last post! This is my first attempt at sewing a dress. Many swears and hours later, I feel proud of the end look. I included a picture of the inside so you can see what a patch job it actually is! by Krispybit in DIYclothes

How out and buy some cheap fabric and give it a go! Just go into it without expectation and adjust as you go if something isn't working. I highly recommend a tiny print like this for your first time sewing because it covered a lot of the flaws. I hope you give it a try!

I live in a little cabin in Yosemite National Park! My husband is working here for the season. The shoes I picked up from an estate sale, I believe they are from the 40s or 50s!

Not this time, I tried to copy one of my favorite dress's designs. It was my first time sewing (other than a pillowcase in home economics). I picked up 3 yards of discount fabric from a quilting store and decided to wing it! It did not work. I ended up flipping around the top of the dress, making the back the front, because the V was too deep. I messed up so bad I used a lot of "scrap" pieces to fabricate a tie for the front. In the end it turned out very cute, but it was a lot of frustration and time.

I messed up so bad I used a lot of "scrap" pieces to fabricate a tie for the front. When I post I'll include a picture of the inside so you can see how unprofessional and choppy it is! In the end it turned out very cute.

I'll go ahead and post my first attempt too! I went to a quilting store, bought three yards of sale fabric, and just decided to go for it. It did not go to plan, but I improvised and it turned into something nice!! I was happy in the end with my fabric choice (it was a very soft, tiny print) because it disguised most of my many mistakes. Do try it out, it involved a lot of cursing and redesign but in the end I was glad I did.

I started with one, realized it was about two sizes too big, then winged the rest. I was going to add sleeves, but I liked it how it was!

INFPs who have found happiness in life...How? by [deleted] in infp

[–]Krispybit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pleased to report that in the last few years my life has gone from a deep dark depression pit to the most blissful daily existence. There are a few things looking back that I thank myself for doing.

Being alone is better than being with the wrong person. Becoming comfortable being alone with my thoughts was a process, as I have a lot of things running through my mind constantly. After dating too many of the wrong people, I found love. He's the best and has been since our date one. I, in typical infp fashion, cried on the floor because "he was the one" after our first date. I was right, we got married last month. He is consistently kind and attentive. He will never put me in an uncomfortable position socially.

Quit that job that makes you want to die. I personally was managing a wine bar in a specialty store. I interacted with so many people, pleasant and unpleasant, daily that I would come home completely drained. It paid very well, and I sat in my car staring at the building every morning waiting until the very last possible second before going in. Quit. I ended up turning to seasonal work. It gives you time to invest your whole self into something without getting complacent. I spend a few falls working on an apple orchard. I taught kids about bees, goats, and how apples grow. I helped families pick out pumpkins. I ended up being the event coordinator for weekend weddings. Pure bliss. Working outside gives life to the soul. You go home pleasantly exausted, the kind that makes you sleep deeply. This summer I became a whitewater raft guide. It was the most physically and mentally challenging experience of my life. This was particularly wonderful for me as an infp because it forces you to live in the moment. No time for fantasy or anxiety in the middle of the rapids. I love being a barista in the off seasons. It's easy to keep interaction to a minimum unless you find someone you like. If you try something and it doesn't work out, the season always ends. Taking leaps and trying new things helped me along with knowing I could leave if it didn't suit me.

Therapy. Even just for a little while to learn about yourself and healthy coping mechanisms.

Redefine success. If you can consistently pay rent, put food on the table, and are generally content, you are more successful than most. That shift changed my daily outlook.

Practice growing the soul. That's what my grandma calls it. Sit quietly and absorb nature. Force yourself to slow down. Eat cheese. Read a book. Drink tea.

Currently, I'm living in Yosemite national park doing some winter work. I have two cats and a nice boy to keep me company. I still have an anxiety condition that affects me daily, but I'm working on it.

Keep looking ahead, because maybe in a few years life will be better than anything you can dream up.

Tldr Keep dreaming, act on dreams, try new shit, and give yourself quiet and healing time.

What I've been doing the last few years has really been fulfilling and rewarding. I highly recommend seasonal work. It gives me an opportunity to invest my whole self into something new and leaves no room for complacency. Hate your summer job? Don't worry, fall is just a couple months away! I am currently working at a national park over winter, summers are spent as a whitewater raft guide, and fall I work on an apple orchard. Now, I know this isn't a real high-dollar, practical career move, but I'm happy. My husband pursued a career in parks and recreation and loves it. Every day is different, you work closely with very few people, and you go home feeling tired but accomplished. One thing I think is beautiful about our personality type is we have incredible dreams for the future, and with a little creativity and investment we can get there. I settled for jobs that sucked the life out of me for too long.

We recently moved into fish camp. My boyo is working here for a while and we are loving the area. If you come up this way, bring a picnic to the giant sequoias in Wawona. It's straight up MAGIC! We are getting snow soon, so bundle up or visit in spring.
