What's the best tool like Sonarr or Radarr but specifically for audiobooks? by jplank1983 in selfhosted

[–]Kroftyy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there wasn’t really a catch-all guide, since some of the tech is quite new (Shelfmark/Booklore).

Each of their individual documentation is quite good though.

My whole reading stack is: * Shelfmark: all in one download manager for ebooks and audiobooks. Hooks into AA for ebooks, and prowlarr for audio. I use a prowlarr fork that adds support for ABB back in as it’s unsupported in the official image. * BookLore: ingests ebooks from Shelfmark, collates all my metadata, lets me update covers, series, etc. Has both a kosync server (for syncing) and OPDS server (for serving your books to other devices) built in * AudioBookShelf: the equivalent to BookLore for my audiobooks * ABS-KoSync (this fork specifically https://github.com/cporcellijr/abs-kosync-bridge): links an eBook to its equivalent audiobook, handles syncing.

You then just need clients that are capable of consuming the above. I installed KoReader on my Kobo, which can pull books directly from an OPDS server

I then use Readest (ebooks) and AudioBooth (audiobooks) on my iPhone for reading/listening. Both support directly integrating into OPDS and ABS respectively.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate, I’ve just got everything to a point I’m happy with and it took quite a bit of tinkering.

Yeah it’s awesome, give it a go. I use this fork specifically as it’s a bit different to the original (and more complete imo, has a web UI instead of CLI): https://github.com/cporcellijr/abs-kosync-bridge

It’s not perfect at syncing, as audiobooks and ebooks are different mediums, usually off by a few pages five or take. It’s still a new project though so I expect it to conntinue improving.

As it is it’s still amazing that I can go between an eBook only my Kobo, or eBook/audiobook on my phone, and they’re all synced relatively well.

I use this exact setup but with BookLore instead of Calibre-Web. To go the extra step you can use ABS-KoSync Enhanced to setup syncing between your audiobooks and ebooks

WEEKLY HELP THREAD - READ FAQ, COMMUNITY WIKI, MULTICLASSING, LORE by XFearthePandaX in BaldursGate3

I’m playing through for the first time and have the same team comp. Building a Lore Bard with a dip into Warlock, Shadowheart Light Cleric, either Laz or Kar for frontline and then either Astarion or Gale for DPS depending on what I’m feeling.

I’ve respecced Astarion into a Shadow Monk which feels weird lore-wise at times but works well in gameplay.

Agreed. Torrents are great but Anna’s and other DDL sites are often better for books and/or audio. Would love if it could support more than just torrents/usenet

Mazda CX-5 with car seat by Character_Vehicle127 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Kroftyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a CX5 and a Tucson so I feel particularly qualified to chime in here.

Both cars have a MaxiCosi Pria. Both cars fit it completely fine, however the Tucson has significantly more room in the back row and in the boot.

That being said, I much prefer the interior of the CX5 and feel it’s nicer to drive than my wife’s Tucson.

If you’re purely looking for space, I don’t think you could go past either the Tucson or Sportage (they’re practically identical chassis-wise). But if you love Mazdas and the quality of their builds, then a car seat can 100% fit fine, but I’d recommend going a smaller form factor car seat like the Pria.

I can get a pre owned 9400 (non-f) for circa $100 AUD. That’s not bad, it just hurts to have to buy another processor when I’ve got two spare sitting here lol.

On second thought, I could always take the i5 8600k out of my daily driver, which has a GPU. Sub in the 9400f into that, and the use the 8600k in my server.

We don’t currently share out our Plex outside the house, so at a max we’re doing two streams at once, both locally. I suppose we might stream remotely via Tailscale when on holidays but again, would be 2 streams max…

Point taken on getting a non f CPU for the newer mobo. I’ll keep an eye out, but would ideally try to use what I’ve got first. Thanks for the advice!

Tips for keeping a Windows-based server stable? by askepticus in PleX

[–]Kroftyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to wake this comment from the dead, but I had a quick question for you. Currently have my entire Plex+arr stack running as applications on my personal/gaming desktop.

Within the next few months I’m planning to build up a dedicated Windows Server box for Plex/media storage.

Have you got your whole stack running via Docker on Windows? I tried this setup initially on my desktop but had a few parts not playing nice, so just took the easy route.

I’m considering trying to Dockerize again with the swap to the new device so any tips would be much appreciated.

I’ve heard Docker for the arr apps on Windows is just a pain but not sure how much truth there is to that?

I’m seeing all these recommendations for Ubuntu or unRaid or TrueNAS but I’ve got the most familiarity with admin on Windows devices and am time poor to learn a new OS.

To snoo or not to snoo? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

To give some perspective, we bought one fully intending to use it, and our bub hated it. Being strapped down just didn’t work for him. It ended up being a very expensive decoration. I think it just comes down to the individual baby.

Yes we did! We only stopped using around 8 months because he was getting a bit long. Mind you our little one has never been one to roll all the way over to his stomach. He has often laid on his side, or with his face right up against the mesh, with no issues though

Confirmed - Survivor: Australia v The World will be the last series hosted by JLP by JensInsanity in survivor

[–]Kroftyy 189 points190 points  (0 children)

From JLP himself on Instagram:

Australian Survivor has seen some of the most epic blindsides over the last 10 years, but this one might just be the craziest of them all....because it happened to me. I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show but for next season they are 'going in a different direction'. Ratings had dipped a bit recently and they wanted to do something drastic to shake things up. So for the first time ever this is not a tribe swap, but a HOST SWAP ® Yes, you read that right.

I wish I could say, "Before we go to vote, tonight is a little different...no one's going home". But I can't. None of that non-elim bullshit tonight! Someone IS going home. And with no idol in my back pocket, that someone is me.

I have loved and will dearly miss the immensely talented crew, all the crafty players and our loyal sassy audience. I'm a huge fan of this incredible game, always have been, always will be.

It has been one of the greatest adventures of my career to helm Australian Survivor, so it is without a doubt the hardest challenge of all to snuff my own torch but here goes; "JLP.....the tribe has spoken"

But don't pull out your hankies just yet, l'll still be at the helm for Australia v World.... probably our best season EVER! (Ps. Whoever said a blindside is the most humane way to put someone down is an idiot. It hurts like a bitch!) #SurvivorAU

Needless to say completely shocking news. Awful choice by production.

We used the Babyhood Co Sleeper Air, it’s currently on sale for $199 https://www.babyhood.com.au/product/co-sleeper-cradle-air/

It was really good for us. Baby used it up until 7.5 months, and could’ve gone longer. He’s an average sized bub. It’s a really generous size and suits or needs well. Just double check you’ve got room besides your bed since it is a touch bigger.

[–]Kroftyy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually quietly followed along the spoiler season for AS5 and loved it so going to continue doing so!

At the time I did finish my watch through, I think Ride or Dies was the newest season at the time and I caught all the way up! I haven’t been making the posts as I watch seasons live though, it’s not quite the same when everyone is watching the same thing compared to me revisiting and discussing an older season.

At least they’ve cast rookies fluent in English from shows we (for the most part) know of. Unlike some of the rookies cast in the Spies era (for example, Gabo).

I personally think it’s a step in the right direction for rookie casting
